Sigh, my conversation with J last night went sometime like this...

I went for a MGC (Marriage Guidance Course) with TSO prior to our ROM and the big plunge to Germ land. And to my horror it was a group MGC. More like workshop style and spanned over 3 Sundays. Almost felt like I was in AA or something.

Me: "Hello my name is Infusionz. And I'm getting married"

All: "Hello Infusionz!"

LOL! It was strange alright. It involved everything from communication, responsibilities, anger management, sex blah blah blah. It all sounds very Anthony Robbins-ish for me. Living in the present and not in the past or future. Eck. Worst 3 Sundays ever.

What the ...?! Hokay, this MGC thingy sounds downright creepy! *shudder* From how you described it, I can imagine the ordeal you went through brudder ... and over 3 weekends some more! o_O

How large was the group man? Isn't there an option to either take it as a couple only ... or even individually? Man, did all the guys in the group look like poor lambs being led to the slaughter? :\

So tell me, was it mostly cookie-cutter, "7 Habits" kinda stuff ... or was it remotely helpful?

It was a group of about 5 couples. Ok it wasn't as AA-ish as I described coz I was exaggerating but you get the picture.

Like you, I'm not comfortable with voicing my feelings or whatever to a stranger. And attending the group one was actually better for me because looking at all the other poor sods in the lecture room made me feel comforted for some reason. Haha. I mean I'm in there from 9am to 5pm for 3 Sundays. It makes me happy to know that someone else is feeling my pain. LOL

Surprisingly, I found it quite useful and there was more than one time when the counsellor would say something that either I or TSO was guilty of and we'd exchange some nervous looks at each other. There was some self revelation that I experienced during the talks and discussion sessions. So I would say overall, it did do some good in identifying areas we should improve on. But nevertheless, the entire thing was painful.

Hokay, now I'm in a dilemma ... take the darn course in a group along with other suffering sods, or just J and me. Erm, but wasn't it awkward to talk about (I imagine) fairly private and personal things in front of strangers? I can't imagine the guys being very vocal. Pls tell me there weren't any embarassing touchy-feely-weepy moments!!!

Well, at least I'm glad to hear that it wasn't a total waste of time. That would've doubled the pain man! Yup, biting the bullet is quite an appropriate phrase huh? LOL!

There were some SPGs with their ang moh fiances in it so it got especially interesting during the sex bits. The lecturer even said to the ladies... "Why wouldn't you want to give your husband a blow job" If it makes him happy and makes it less likely for him to stray. Then it's a small sacrifice to make" You should have seen some of the guys' faces.

And what was most enlightening for me was that some of these couples came from a previous marriage and so some of their experiences about why their previous marriages failed and how to avoid it was an eye opener. I mean these are the folks who know for sure how sour a marriage can get and are actually doing something proactive about their new marriage.

As for touchy weepy, my experience is that during the sessions, we'll have a poker face but back in the car and when we're in private, we'll discuss it and that's when it gets really touchy weepy. The way I prefer it to be anyway.

Biting the bullet indeed is the ideal phrase.

The BJ bit is hilarious! That must've put the ladies in a spot huh? So did you guys gang up and like go "Yeah man! Now you're talking man!" LOL! Erm, the lecturer was a guy I guess?

Woah, that was certainly helpful ... learning from the past mistakes of other couples ... I grant you that! It's good that they're willing to talk about it ... and actually doing something to try and avoid the same pitfalls this time round. Hats off to them.

Yeah, I'm with you bro. I ain't gonna get touchy weepy in front of no strangers man! J has exclusive rights to that part of me. Hahaha!

Actually it was 2 main counsellors. One who focused on sexual matters (male) and one who focused on emotional matters (female). The guy actually introduced it as BJ and LJ. BJ I knew but LJ i was left scratching my head. Livejournal? Lanjiao? Haha. In the end, it was "lick job"

Yeah the guys were smirking and grinning when he said that. And then the dude back flipped and told us to "finish the job" and not just fall asleep all the time. That got the girls smirking. But that wouldn't affect you and me would it buddy? We're strong, full of stamina and always deliver. Right right right? Haha.

The sex bits made the entire ordeal a little more bearable.

LJ ... MUAHAHAHA! That reminds me, the first time I heard of LJ was when a gal told she spends alot of time on it. I nearly choked on my fishball. LOL! Then there's this customer of mine that keeps referring to his IT network as "his LAN" (in a most obiang hokkien accent some more). *ahem* But I digress...

They actually had a section on sexual matters? Like what wor? How come moxielass didn't get any karmasutra 101 during her MPC? Hmmm, methinks the courses aren't consistent in content. Must find the ones with the sex bits so that at least I can let the cheekiness out. Man, I can't imagine keeping a straight face throughout the whole ordeal man.

And of coz us strong men always finishes the job lah! Pfffft, like there's any doubt! *FLEX* LOL!

Yah the course vary quite a bit. I didn't take the courses listed on the gahmen website: http://fcd.ecitizen.gov.sg/CourtshipNMarriage/ExchangeYourVows/Resources/MarriagePreparation/

But if you look through the courses listed in the brochure at: http://fcd.ecitizen.gov.sg/NR/rdonlyres/9E1E1F42-E15D-4A79-8C87-F43FA7AD197C/0/MPPBrochure.pdf , I think mine was closest to the course on page 5 which includes a section on sexual intimacy, conflict management, financial planning etc. The price per couple is also around the same. +/- S$250

Theirs is a 5 day course but I think shorter hours while mine was 3 days but 8 hours per day.

Wah, thanks for the links man! It was supposed to be my homework for tonight! LOL!

Woah, there are tonnes of courses to choose from the brochure. I'll need some time to look through them and discuss with J. I suspect she'll prefer one-on-one. Also, need to find a short and sweet one! OK, can drop the sweet part if needed. LOL!

Oh forgot to answer your question about the topics covered under sexual intimacy. iirc

1. First time (SOOOOO unapplicable)

2. Differences between sexual needs. Men vs women. The dude cited studies and all that crap talking about how women are 7 times more "powerful" than men. Or something like that

3. BJ, LJ

4. Chief thunderbird. LOL. This was a video. *Smacks buzz's forehead* Not THAT kind of video. Explaining about how men sometimes attack and finish quickly. *Sheesh*. Major chuckle control was needed here

And some discussions about using toys, and even.... errrrmmm swallowing. Fark this is turning into a porn post. I'll stop here.

OUCH! *rubs forehead* Why (4) not that kinda AV? I thought it was to educate the ladies in the finer art of ... erm ... nvm!

What, women are 7x more powerful?! Sure or not? In what way wor? Multiple orgasms? Hmmm...

I can't imagine how they'll teach BJ/LJ. Should use AV educational vids no? And you can't cover a topic like BJ/LJ without touching on swallowing, right or not? And toys too? Man, I wonder how the womenfolk reacted man. For guys, it's probably just one notch above run-of-the-mill AV. Heh!

Chief Thunderbird ... ROFLMAO!!! I bet this was one video BOTH men and women could relate too ... for very different reasons. So what, are we guys supposed to stay conscious after The Deed to indulge in cuddling, sweet nothings, and other warm-tingly stuff? LOL!

Haha. Sounds like AA.

Buzz, I chose one-to-one course for us! 4 sessions in all.

Reply

buzz_cut April 4 2007, 07:27:14 UTC
4 sessions over how long ah? A friend told me the couple can also choose to take the course separately (i.e. individually). Is that right? But I won't go for that option lah coz I'll probably feel worse without J around.

Heh, I know I sound suaku with my questions lah, but at least I'm interested enuff to find out right? ;)
