141 - PART OF YOUR WOOOOOORLLLLLLD

Sep 17, 2011 23:16

[A warm, glowing light begins to fill your screen, before finally the image clears, and you get to see... the incomparably beautiful image of Mermaid Prefect, propped up against the side of the moat, with his arms resting on the muddy bank. He's managed to jam his communicator (which in this instance, is a beauty and the beast style magic looking ( Read more... )

[Arriving at a moat with a cart and a barrel, and the calmest horse ever. All that stuff? It may be stolen.]

Merman? [Barron called, looking around for Prefect.]

[Prefect lifts his head out of the moat, and when he sees the array of things... he almost doesn't want to drown you, Barron. His face lights up, and he lifts his arms towards the other man!]

I'm here! This is amazing, friend! I don't believe you actually came back!

[Barron smiles, but doesn't step any closer. He's staying firmly out of reach. That girl with the pictures may have had a point.]

Of course I did! But you're going to have to climb out of the moat for me. Just at first.

[There was no way Barron was going near the water.]

[Prefect looks pained for a moment, but, the desire to get out of the moat is strong, so he plants his palms on the edge of the moat, and tries to push himself out. He lifts most of his upper body out of the water, twists his tail around, annnnnd...

His arms give out, and he falls back into the water with a splash. After a minute, he lifts up again, and props his arms on the bank again, looking miserable.]

Could you throw me a rope? Or... one end of your jacket or something, friend?

[Barron cringes as Prefect falls back. That struggle looked like the real deal, although it doesn't entirely convince him that Prefect isn't faking it to get him near the water.]

Alright. [Barron takes off his shirt and twists it, until it's that bit more sturdy. He offers the end of it to Prefect, making sure he keeps his distance.]

[Prefect twists his arms around the shirt, and for a moment, the urge to give it one quick jerk to try and drag Barron to him rears up inside of him... then he beds it back, and carefully... carefully, he hauls himself up, stomach flat against the muddy bank.

This feels really weird.

Once his tail is entirely on land, Prefect pushes himself up, and twists around to look at it. He doesn't see himself like this very often.]

Thank you, friend.

[Prefect's weight almost pulls Barron forward, but he manages to keep his footing. He's a bit wary of getting too close to Prefect, but figures he has to bite the bullet sooner or later.]

You'll be fine. [Barron said, crouching down next to Prefect. The scales did look expensive, but it was hard to imagine stripping them off. Especially when Prefect was looking at him like that.] You ready for part two?

[Prefect hadn't really considered in the past how deeply, fundamentally scary being pulled out of the moat would be. He could die, doing this. He really could. This human could just throw him in the back of his cart without any water and ride off, waiting for him to dry out. With the water, he was mysterious and fascinating to people, he was a monster to be avoided and feared... out here though? He didn't feel very monstrous.

Looking up at Barron, he nodded. Ready for part two. Yes, okay, they could do this.]

What's your name?

[Barron's smile wavers, just for a second. This wasn't meant to get personal on any level.]

Barron Fisher. [He laughs.] My parents had a sense of humor.

[He looks at Prefect, then at the cart.] Alright. I may have to drag you a bit.

It is... nice to meet you, Barron Fisher. [That was the weirdest thing to be saying to a human. Prefect smiles. Then it wavers slightly as he contemplates being dragged. Glancing back at his tail, he frowns.]

Uh, in that case, could you pull my by the tail? It's kind of sensitive, and my scales could get dislodged if there are stones or anything.

[Barron just stared for a long moment. This was the most bizarre thing that he'd ever done. And he was in the one of the most bizarre lands.]

I might have a blanket. [Barron paused.] I might wet it, actually.

[It would keep Prefect damp, at least.]

[Prefect nodded quickly.] That would be great, Friend! Really really great!

[Barron goes and gets it, dumping it in the lake. It comes out muddied, but he doesn't think that Prefect will mind, he drapes over him. He goes and moves the cart as closer as he's willing to with the mud. So much mud. :c]

You're going to have the trip of your life. [Barron said, as he started to attempt to drag Prefect the last few meters to the cart.] Just think of all the things you're going to see.

Ha ha, yes, I'm sure it will be very exciting. [Merfect laughs a little nervously, but he lets himself be dragged.] But I really do just want to get to the ocean...

[They're at the edge of the cart. Barron starts talking, he voice full of false reassurance.] You're going to have to lift yourself up a bit. It'll be fine though. This is going to be the best thing you've ever done.

[That was probably laying it on a bit thick, but there you go.]

[Oh god this is really scary. Come on, come on you can do this...

Prefect doesn't reply, but he does throw his arms up over the edge of the cart, and try to struggle into a position from where he can get over the side.

It's... kind of not working though. A lifetime spent in the water is making having to deal with actual gravity a pretty unrewarding experience for Prefect.]
