Here in the basement you can never tell if it's summer or winter. Most of the time I like this job, but the basement is sort of weird. Nothing lives here. Nobody who works here has ever seen a single living being down here, except for people. Not spiders, no ants. We have no cobwebs, even though nobody ever cleans. I guess no spiders is a good thing, but it's also strange. There is this apple that was already sitting on the desk next to mine for years when I first got here, and it didn't rot. It kept its color and just shriveled and dried up with time. Not even bacteria lives here. During the summer someone left a banana lying around for weeks. It got black but no gnats gathered around it. It didn't smell. Maybe this is not such a healthy place.

When one is uninspired it's hard to write about happy things, or really sad emotional things, but it may be easier to write about lifeless things, like the basement.

EDIT: while cleaning the lifeless basement, I found a small white cardboard box, on the top of which it said, "invisible laser diode". Needless to say, when I opened it, there was nothing inside. Or maybe it was just invisible...
