Okay, so last week Friday, Chris got the news that his brother's best friend killed his own girlfriend. It was supposedly an "accident"....but dudes..he fricken strangled her. Everyone is feeling sorry for this kid, but somehow I feel there's more to it than just an "accident". To me, strangling someone...especially your own girlfriend, looking her right in the eyes...is such a hateful act. It would be different if he would have pushed her and then she hit her head or something...but to watch someone choke for air and watch blood vessels pop in their eyes...and doing all this to someone you supposedly love and care for...is just unimaginably disturbing to me. I guess the girl had been doing drugs and stuff, and he fell asleep next to her and the next minute she was beating and scratching him..so to protect himself, he strangled her. I just don't get it, you guys.
I feel bad for Jake and Chris, because this is literally like losing a friend. I mean, would he not go to jail for life? Its nowhere near manslaughter...I don't know. Chris is doing okay, but if you guys could see his brother, its like looking at a spiritless body just going thru the motions. People make such retarded decisions..whether they are doing it consciously or subconsciously. I was talking to my Criminal Justice professor about it, and he gave me a long explanation..but to sum it up: There's no hope for Chris's brother's friend.
But sometimes my mind changes, and I've just seen this kid's face in pictures in the newspaper, and he just seems to have given up hope. I mean, one minute you're there sleeping next to your girlfriend...then within a matter of five minutes...everything, your whole life and the lives of so many others are just ruined. That's the point that I do feel pity for him, but he still killed someone, you know? I don't know how to comfort Chris when he talks about it because I don't have an honest, one-sided opinion...but then again, neither does Chris. I just don't really know how to react, and am I wrong in feeling that this was just a horrible thing for someone to do..but somehow I can still feel sorry for the very boy who killed that girl? Maybe your guy's opinion will give me help in how to comfort Chris when we drive past the East Detroit Police Department and he just stares at it saying, "Dude. Andrew's in there.."
I just don't know how to help.
