Dearest loved one,
Rest in Peace Artemis, my staunch ally, my grizzled war veteran, my best friend. I'm sad you had to leave us for the other-world on my birthday, but when it's your time, it's your time I guess. Thank you for choosing me and my family to be your humans, thank you for staying with us, especially me, in my darkest hours... I will never forget the way you would lick my tears up when ever I cried, or when I was sick you stayed by my side. I'll never forget that time you tackled Meghan at the cottage, or we caught you mid-frog-feast with little froggy legs hanging out of your mouth like some weird alien, or waking up with you taking up 3/4 of my body-pillow, wrapped around my head like a bonnet. I'll never forget you running around chasing a little laser dot you'd never catch - you knew, but you liked the game anyways.
I'm sorry I couldn't fix you this time, I'm sorry I couldn't give you immortality. That's the problem with reading fantasy novels I suppose. If Edward Cullen were here right now I would have demanded he change you, because my selfish heart is breaking now that you're gone. Please forgive me for leaving you alone - I just pray you're not lost in the dark, and you understand what has happened so that you can go to that better place, or reincarnate, whatever it is kitties do after their lives have drawn to a close.
I will always love you, and I will always miss you, buddy. Sleep tight sweetheart, and enjoy that great gig in the sky.
