Today's bonus Jack and Ianto song is…
"
Gravity" by Sara Bareilles
Song Title: Gravity
Artist: Sara Bareilles
Album: Little Voice
Written by: Sara Bareilles
POV: Ianto
Thoughts: This is one of those songs that I interpret a little differently from the artist's intentions (but that's the beauty of music!). I've heard that Sara Bareilles said that this song is about the first time she got her heart broken. For the boys, I see it more as Ianto is trying to fight his attraction to Jack but he simply cannot resist the pull of Jack's gravity. It reminds me of something I wrote in
Vizzini's Rule ages and ages ago:
He’d seen Captain Harkness once when he was visiting London shortly after Ianto had started….He couldn’t take his eyes off the tall figure in the billowing coat. When the Captain entered the elevator and turned to face front, Ianto would have sworn he was looking right at him. Those blue eyes, staring into him, through him….The man had the gravitational pull of a small planet and Ianto could see how anyone could get caught in it.
Lyrics Excerpt:
Something always brings me back to you.
It never takes too long.
No matter what I say or do
I'll still feel you here 'til the moment I'm gone.
You hold me without touch.
You keep me without chains.
I never wanted anything so much
Than to drown in your love and not feel your rain.
I live here on my knees
As I try to make you see
That you're everything I think I need here on the ground.
