You know what seemingly inherent concept I never picked up on? The Man Hug.
You know, the thing where guys grip hands like their about to arm wrestle, but it's out of affection? I just can't grasp it. No pun intended.
It's such an awkward motion for me. Also, I never know where it's going to go. Will it just be the hand thing? Will they want to pull in and do that shoulder-touch thing and back pat? Will they spice it up with some street-wise hand motions I will never remember?
Hugging. Now there's a concept I get. Wrapping arms around someone. I get that. It's simple. The only complexity of that is when you're hugging a girl you're not trying to grope and you have to make sure you don't grope her. Other than that, I totally get that. But awkward man affection? I just try to bypass the whole thing by not feeling awkward about affection.
