Because I spent far more time world-building than writing.
1 ) The title of this story is taken from Pablo Neruda's Sonnet XVI.
I love the handful of the earth you are.
Because of its meadows, vast as a planet,
I have no other star. You are my replica
of the multiplying universe
2 ) Newton is a Californian great horned owl. I'm sorry if that's not a Californian great horned owl, tumblr continues to thwart me. Mr Darcy is a Verreaux's eagle owl. Guinevere is a spectacled owl because Derek is a drama king. I saw no reason to limit myself to the species of owls mentioned in the books. It's all magic, anyway.
3 ) Derek enters Hogwarts in the academic year 2000 - 2001. Stiles enters Hogwarts in the academic year 2004 - 2005.
4 ) Wands
Stiles' wand is sycamore, phoenix feather, 11 inches, swishy.
Derek's wand is fir, unicorn hair, 10¾ inches, unyielding.
Laura's wand is cherry, dragon heartstring, 10 inches, supple.
