This is a dirty season for the cats. They come in from bouncing around the yard full of seedpods, blossoms, bugs, sap. Their hair falls out and Jinx in particular pulls it out in clumps. They jump on the bed with dirty feet and spray litter from their box to the floor, then track it around as they tear through the house. Gertrude is a fine huntstress, and she has brought a couple of her kills to the back door, where the other cats come and paw at it. Sid drags his shedding, dirty body close to his loved ones...Me, Kenneth, and the Baby. They roll in the dirt and sleep on the bed.

That said, they only make up 50 percent of a valid excuse for why our living space has become SO FILTHY!

I was going to get Edie to sleep and then get up to clean, but she won't have it. I sit near to her and knit, and write, while the house deteriorates around us. So be it.
