Back from the weekly Vongola meeting, Shouichi slowly made his way to the deepest, darkest part of the headquarters hidden from prying eyes. He made sure not to step on any trap, counting his steps and recalling the coordinates of the remaining threats along the dimly lit corridors. Upon reaching his destination, he leaned against the oak door to take a long, deep breath. It was funny how he was always so nervous even when he had been walking this route every single day for the past couple of years.

Two years, two months and six days, to be exact. Shouichi knew this because he kept count of all his visits.

The door slid open when he presented his sun flame to the waiting device working as a lock - the lock that was cleverly programmed to only allow signature flames from a very limited number of people within the headquarters to pass through. Shouichi was one of them.

There was a faux window with fake scenery showering the otherwise dark room with artificial sunlight. It looked just like a normal window that let one look out from the inside, but if one should try to reach one hand out, he would find himself barred. The window was just another wall, just a fancy one.

On the bed by the window, Byakuran was sitting up, humming to himself as he bathed in the simulated sunlight. He turned slightly to look at Shouichi when he heard footsteps approaching.

“Oh, Shou-chan’s here! The weather’s so nice to day, isn’t it? What a bright sky we have today!”

Shouichi clenched his fingers at how cheerful Byakuran sounded. His heart twisted in a mixture of emotion.

The real sky was dark, and it was raining outside.

The bespectacled man summoned a smile and sat on the chair next to Byakuran’s bed. A long time ago, he was the one bedridden with cold and flu while a fussy Byakuran moved about his room and sat on the chair next to his bed until Shouichi fell asleep.

But that was a long time ago.

“The weather is indeed nice today, Byakuran-san.”

“I wonder if Tsunayoshi-kun would come to play today too. We can look at the sky together from here. He said he loves the view from here the most.”

Shouichi wanted to cry. Byakuran knew the window was a fake one, but he forced himself to believe it was real. Crippled by the last war, Byakuran was a prisoner of the Vongola, living under constant surveillance and locked away in the deepest part of the mansion. Tsuna, kind Tsuna, made sure to accommodate Byakuran with a spacious and beautiful room. The window was built upon his request.

“I want him to see that the world is beautiful.”

Aside from the window, the four walls were decorated with beautiful pictures and paintings of the nature, making the room appear very calming. Shouichi thought the only way to stop Byakuran was killing the man, but now he was glad Tsuna let Byakuran live. He missed just sitting in a room, chatting like the close friends they used to be. He missed the days when all they did was lay on the bed like the lovers they used to be, telling each other stories.

He missed Byakuran so much.

As the brunette was lost in his thoughts, Byakuran inched away from the window and cupped his face with his hands.

“Thanks for accompanying me today too, Shou-chan.”

Shouichi closed his eyes leaning into the touch. He brought his own hands on top of Byakuran’s as if to hold them there. Despite his best attempt to ward them off, tears found their way to his eyes.

He really missed Byakuran.

So damn much.

“No problem, Byakuran-san.” I could never abandon you.

I know. “Don’t cry, Shou-chan. You’d make the sky sad.”

And Shouichi cried.
