G

G has become good friends with a boy names Shane. She's spoken of him for the past two years, but up until now she has always been annoyed by him. In kindergarten, he used to say he wanted to marry her. Last year at recess, he would chase various girls including her and try to kiss them all. This year, in December, they have become tight. She says she doesn't have a crush on him, and clearly says " he's a good friend". All of the kids tease her about it. The old Gigi and Shane sitting in a tree song. Gigi's fight with Emma was largely due to Emma teasing her.

So I don't mention anything about it. As much as I want to tease her and call him her boyfriend as in " guess who just called? Your boyfriend!" I don't. But, she lights up about him. She gave him her number to call about a playdate. He lost it, she gave it to him again. Tuesday I get a call and hear a soft voice who quickly hands the phone to someone else. Then a man says " uh, this is cuz, is Gigi There". To which I say, " who is this?". He says "yeah, it's Shane's dad."

So we have a playmate for Friday. I'm a little scared. He's high energy and I'm not sure I can handle him. It will either be a snow day or we will go sledding.

The funny thing is how much G talks about the upcoming playdate. She can't wait for it, she's so excited.

It's really sweet. They spend recess together talking and hanging out and laughing. He's silly, she loves to laugh. She's pretty silly too. The hopeless romantic in my looks toward the future and wonders, will they date when they are older. Or will it remain a second grade romance with shared drawings , funny valentines and making snow potions in the school yard.
