He didn’t know what was worse- the fact that his son had gotten into trouble, or the fact that his son had gotten into trouble for picking on a girl.
Yuffie gazed down at the seven year-old boy, hands on her hips, obviously less than amused. Jared had his gaze fixed on the ground, refusing to lift his head to look at his mother as she scolded him.
“What did I tell you about shoving people?”
The boy sniffled, scuffing the ground with the tip of his shoe. “Not to.”
“And what did you do?”
“Shove.”
“Exactly. Apologize, Jared.”
The boy made no move to do so though, merely kept his gaze on the ground.
“Jared Adam Valentine, apologize now.”
He shifted his eyes up to his mother, but still said nothing.
“Jared.”
The boy’s head snapped in his father’s direction, eyes wide.
Vincent watched him evenly, arms folded across his chest. “Apologize to Kennedy.”
He pouted. “Okay.”
Tifa patted her daughter’s head, gently coaxing her out from behind her. Kennedy resisted at first, then slowly peered around her mother’s leg, watching Jared intently, afraid of getting shoved to the ground again.
Jared pouted at her, sniffing slightly. “Sorry.”
Kennedy gazed up at her mother questioningly, but the only comfort Tifa offered the little girl was a smile.
The girl skipped her brown eyes back to Jared. “Okay.” She paused, stepping out from behind her mother. “My daddy’s cooking hot dogs. Want one?”
Jared nodded slightly. “Okay.”
Yuffie watched as her son took off running with Kennedy in the direction of Rude, watched Kennedy tug on her father’s leg until the bald man bent down to speak to her quietly, nodding slightly and handing the two kids each a cut up hot dog- he had set some aside to cool and slice for just such an occasion.
Yuffie sighed, leaning back against Vincent who slowly slid his arms around her. “Vinnie?”
“Yes?”
“I bet you anything he’s going to marry that girl one day.”
