Yuffie poured milk into her bowl, watching Vincent sitting at the table across from her, his face as empty and unreadable as it always was. Sometimes she wondered why she bothered with him, but then she realized that she loved him more than life itself and decided his coldness was a small price to pay.
She munched thoughtfully on her cereal, watching him from under her bangs. In the last couple of years it had become increasingly easier to read his feelings, even if he was trying to be cold and stoic. She could sense his feelings just underneath the surface, breathing, moving, shifting to be hidden. She always knew when here was something wrong.
“You’re going to leave again, aren’t you?”
Vincent blinked at her, somewhat surprised, then he nodded slightly. “Yes.”
She crunched down on another spoonful of cereal, casting her eyes down to the table. “You’re going to the cave, aren’t you?”
He shrugged slightly, not looking her quiet in the eyes, choosing instead to focus on her nose. “Perhaps.”
Yuffie sighed as she placed her spoon down on the table and folded her hands in front of her, looking up at him. “Don’t go.”
“Yuffie-”
“Vincent, don’t go. Please.”
“Yuffie-”
“Why do you have to go? What is out there for you? You have a family here, and you are living in the past instead of taking advantage of what you have now-”
Vincent’s hand came down, swiping her dish to the floor, knocking over the carton of milk in the process. “Enough, Yuffie.”
Yuffie sat there watching him, the milk dripping down over the edge of the table and pooling on the floor.
Down the hall their son cried, but neither dared to move.
