Kids finished school on Monday. I was able to be there for dismissal at 1:15 because my awesome boss let me go 15 minutes early. I was only working until 1 because I am working Saturday and needed to take some comp time. Our school doesn't have a graduation ceremony for 5th graders which I totally agree with but instead they "clap" them out. What happens is cones are placed down the front entrance to the school to make a mock red carpet area and the lower grades line up right behind the cones. As music is blasting, the 5th graders walk out to massive cheering and clapping. It was very cute and I think far more appropriate than a graduation. If you make a big huge deal out of every milestone then the milestones that are huge deals tend not to be because they all were. They did get yearbooks which are amazing. The mom who put it together did a great job.
Anyway after dismissal we headed over to the lake where at least half if not three quarters of the fifth grade was. It was overcast and I'm sure the water was pretty cold but they were all in the water splashing around having fun.
Yesterday I worked half a day too and I left the kids home alone from 8:30 - 12:30. They did very well. Hannah doesn't like to use the stove at all and certainly not when we aren't home but they can use the toaster and we had plenty of cereal and yogurt so it wasn't like they were going to starve. After work we ran a few errands and they talked me into having lunch at the food court in the mall. They love the salad bar place. By the time we did the stuff we had to at the mall and Target I was done, my hip was killing me and I couldn't walk anymore. Hannah had wanted to go to Toys R Us to use some gift card money but I couldn't. I actually came home and took a two hour nap.
Physical therapy is going. Not sure if it is working or not but I go back to the orthopedist next Wed so we'll see. Jeff's parents were supposed to take the kids to Virginia this week between school and camp but that got cancelled last minute because Paula (Jeff's mom) had a torn and detached retina in the eye where she had the cornea transplants last week.
I think that is about all that is going on now. Camp starts Monday. We will slowly settle into our summer routine. I need to get more sunscreen. Oh and Sunday we are hopefully going to this
NJ Symphony outdoor festival. Can't wait. We did it once years ago and it was fun. Hope everyone stayed cool today, it was supposed to be a scorcher. Of course I've been inside since 12:30.
