Life this weekend: Saturday w/Celli, Sunday w/symphony

Celli crashed here on an air mattress last night, after a long day getting burned and freckled at NASCAR. Plus, she got souvenirs. Obviously she had fun. She's the first guest I've had over who was non-family, so she got to see the teeny new apartment (pronounced it "so cute!") and parts of the campus in the dark. Vilandra25 also came up from Boulder and went with us to get tacos and ice cream. Much dissection of fandom, Stargate, Alias, and other stuff was done after watching "Avalon II" (more on that later). And it was finally cool enough to sleep by midnight, so it was perfectly comfortable since we stayed up way past that.

Today I got to see the nephew again; he no longer looks like Lex Luthor, since he now has hair. He's also way more hyper than Lex, being likely to suddenly screech his displeasure or screech his delight at any given moment for no discernible reason. You do that a lot at 8 months, I gather.

After which I cam home to a free concert in the Oval at the university. The city symphony was set up in a bandstand which sheltered them from heat around 4pm and sprinkling around 6pm, when the concert actually started. I got there a little late, bringing my own little rug and settled in under the *huge* (50-60')trees that surround the Oval. Only a little bit of rain got through, and the wind was just this shushing noise that was an extra bit of percussion -- followed by thunder, occasionally. Had fun people watching; guys standing sentinel with their bikes leaning against them as they listened, seniors in straw hats with huge umbrellas, little kids chasing each other, people with dogs wandering by. Just very relaxing. After which, I came here to the library, and have picked up three new books to read.

BUt I have many many tests to grade before tomorrow now, so I will give reactions on the bits of SciFriday I've gotten to see (no BSG yet, wah!) tomorrow, along with the book reviews and fic recs I keep meaning to do. I only have a ton of research to do tomorrow, after all. Right. Time to walk home, over the Vietnam Bridge (faces east and west; to commemorate those who fought, and those who protested, and how they come together in the middle).
