I will miss you so, so much.
I will miss the times I'd pick you up.
I will miss the times you'd smile when you see me.
I will miss the times I'd talk to you.
I will miss the times I'd just sit there watching you tidy your things.
I will miss the times we'd eat together at our house.
I will miss the times you'd tell me you'd have your li see ready when I get married.
I will miss the times you write fai churn for us every year.
I will miss the times you'd sleep on our couch.
I will miss the times you'd call after I drop you off to see if i got home safe.
I will miss your laughter.
I will miss our sign language.
I will miss your handshakes.
I will miss your poems.
I will miss your stories.
I will miss your song.
I will miss your presence.
I miss you.
You were always such an easy man. You took care of yourself well. You never asked for much. All you needed was hair gel and a hair cut once a month. you always dressed well. your calligraphy was superb. you always looked so happy to be with us. you were smart enough to use a cell phone. you would call us often to check up on us. you always asked when i would get married. you always cared.
For a 92 year old. you kept our life simple. calcium pills, ensure milk, soft diet, and fruits. we never had to help you in the bathroom, feed you, change you, or medicate you.
I wish I came to see you more. I really looked forward to seeing you every thursday. I enjoy seeing you eat dim sum with us and having dinner with us. I really enjoy helping you every step of the way. I enjoy being with you. Two weeks ago, you wrote, "when I am at your home, i am happy." Three nights ago, just the night before you passed, you called and told us to remind you to write the fai churn--your proudest responsibilty. You asked how our business was doing. You cared for us so much.
On February 17, 2006 I picked you up from the care home to go see the doctor. you had pneumonia for a month already and refused to eat. You've gotten so weak, I helped you into the wheelchair. you never needed a wheelchair. the doctor was really busy that day. you wanted to go after waiting for almost an hour but i decided for you to stay and wait. I asked the doctor for Megace to stimulate your appetite. He wanted to know why you don't like to eat. You said you're full and not feeling good. He prescribed it and asked for an X-ray immediately. I took you to the X-ray place. That is where i stood in the bathroom with you for the first time. you never needed help in the bathroom. you got the x-ray done and i pushed you back to the doctor's office. we had to wait again. you asked me why and I just said you need to. x-ray showed a shadow of a herniated stomach in the lung area which may explain why its uncomfortable for you eat. i pushed you to the car and drove you back to my home. you struggled to go up the stairs for the first time. you needed to use the restroom. you took longer than usual in the bathroom so i went to check on you. you needed help off the seat. me and mom helped pull up your pants. you got very weak. my mom fed you jook, you swallowed twice. she asked you to eat more. you body went limp. you no longer looked at us. we called 911. we took you off the seat and laid you on the floor you still breathed. i called you over and over and over to wake up. i called you loud so you could hear me. the firefighters and ambulance came. they did cpr and used a defibrillator to help you. they intubated you. they pumped your chest over and over. and in the ambulance they continued to pump your chest. i rode in the ambulance with you. i prayed and prayed. in the ER, they worked on you. they tried everything. the doctor came out and said they are still trying. he goes back in. At 3:32 pm they pronounced his death.
the doctor said you did not suffer, had normal blood sugar, and died of natural causes.
you looked so peaceful.
I miss you Gung Gung.
I miss you so, so much.
