yes, i know, 2014 is well underway, but the end of the year is busy and i'm too Irish to do a year-in-review thing until the year is actually over, anyway, so...! first of all, some stats... ( my AO3 stats and some thoughts on AO3 )

Brava!

Uchouten Kazoku is a great anime, but it is hard to write for. So much talk of... tanuki being eaten :/ That and I didn't hear a huge buzz about it. Definitely a show that was unappreciated while it aired. It did have some great graphics so idk why it wasn't more of a hit with the tumblr crowd.

thankyou!

it realllllllly is an incredible series. i guess i can see that... though, i find the tanuki's... philosophy, or maybe outlook, on being eaten to be endlessly fascinating. and there most definitely was not enough buzz. =/ i guess it just didn't offer as much m/m or even f/f action, but... such an incredible universe and story...! and just trying to figure benten out should be reason for there to be a million fics!

i think it's also based on a novel series? so maybe some people are hesitant because they're not sure what's been revealed in novels?? i don't really know. i mean, i've only written one fic, so it's not like i'm championing the fandom or anything, it's just... too bad. such a great series.

♥!

It really took me a while to get used to it and even then I was still o.O over the possibility. Ah, romance... well yeah. With most of the male characters being brothers, it might have deterred some people from slashing. And Benten was probably one of the most interesting characters of the year. There is so much unexplained about her, how she is what she is. Hmm.

There is that. Idk. Hopefully there will be some more in the future! :)

it took me a long time, too, but i think like... they've lived for generations at the bottom of a feeding chain, of sorts, i mean, they're not actually on the bottom, but like... tengu at the top, then humans in the middle, and the tanuki at the bottom... but yeah, it's not really slash-friendly, not unless you want brother-on-brother action, and i don't even know then, because like... the youngest brother is too young, the eldest is too stiff, and the second eldest is a frog...

for a long time, i didn't like benten. and then we get to the finale, and the second to last episode, too, and it's like... everything she did was so contradictory and interesting, when i went back to rewatch it, i spent more time considering her actions, and... yeah, she's just endlessly fascinating and sad and terrible and wonderful and...!

i would cry for joy if there was a second season, just. *_*

Indeed. Though it seems like the Friday Fellows are the only ones that eat Tanuki now. It doesn't seem fashionable to do it any more! ^^ but I guess the stories stick with you, especially after your father is eaten. Fandom can be so shallow sometimes lol

Oh I was the same. I find it difficult to understand Yasaborou being in love with her though. Though she is very captivating. But there are so many mysteries about her. Just this huge gap between her kidnapping and her developing powers and how she became part of the Friday Fellows. It would be pretty interesting to explore how she changed, but I'm not sure how... Hmm.

One can hope!

yup, which is good!! because cute tanukis...! and yeah, it's like... i was much more aware of it the second time i watched it, how much grief was actually drenching everything in the series... even though Yasaborou was defiantly trying to live an interesting life, and his eldest brother was trying to carry on his father's legacy, and their mother was just being awesome... pretty much all of them were struggling at all times to just keep going on without their amazing father. =/

yeah, i feel like... he became infatuated with her when he first met her, and then they had that bond that was... god, i love how complicated everything in the series is... because they pulled that trick together that caused his master to be crippled, which freed her, but left him feeling guilty because he didn't have a reason to dislike his master, he just wanted to help her... so that was a bond they shared, but it really didn't help to make them closer... and then she went and joined the Friday Fellows, so like... he had this infatuation, but what ( ... )
