Today at work while making my rounds around the store trying to persuade the guests to use our pharmacy, I passed by a young male in his early to late 20's bent down on one knee searching through a box of tools. I was headed towards a woman with a shopping cart and a child (my preferred demographic because we give free flavoring now) when I saw the guy out of the corner of my eye and I immediately turned around and went back towards him. I asked him if I could help him find something with a smile on my face and quickly assessed what he was up to. He was searching through the tools, taking a few out of the packaging, so the first thing that came to mind since we are a high risk store was that he was stealing the contents. He was also a bit dirty, very thin but not gaunt, with scruffy medium hair, and had the type of skin that addicts wind up with. He glanced up at me and politely said no that he was doing okay so I walked away but only got about 2 feet away because another guest came up to me to ask for something. I was glad he was within earshot because obviously I wasn't running to tell someone else what I had just witnessed and he was on camera getting himself into more trouble. After I was done with the guests, I immediately went to the far side of the store and called the operator so she could take care of things and get Security to check him out. A few minutes later, I saw both TPS team members making a quick plan until the cops could arrive. TPS later told me that the guy knew something was up and got defensive when one of the TPS people asked if they could help him find something. Apparently, his voice got louder and he took off to back of the store where they thought he was going to take off through the emergency exit. He didn't but he did start winding his way back to the front of the store through the aisles while dropping what he'd stolen in random places. By the time he got to the checkout area, two cops were waiting for him, threw him against a wall and arrested him. They also found razors on him which they considered a weapon and dangerous to the publics safety.
So what in the world was he up to with all the tools? Turns out he was actually trying to steal some bottles of
Alli. Yea, thats right. The new over-the-counter weightloss pill. I don't know how other stores sell it but at my store, they are all packaged individually as kits inside a heavy plastic secured box. Its definitely an expensive item but in my opinion not even worth the hassle. The prescription strength version makes overweight/obese people constantly have anal leakage which is not fun. The OTC version can do the same thing if the person's diet continues to include fatty foods. This idiot should have just bought some Exlax! I know he probably wanted to sell them and make money off the stolen goods but the amount he was going to make was definitely not worth going to jail over plus all the fees he's now going to have from getting out of jail, going to court, etc, etc.
The good news is I got a raffle ticket for the monthly drawing thanks to this. :D
I hope I win!
