"Umm, wait! Have some breakfast first, here." He handed her one of the mugs with hot steaming coffee and a plate with delicious pancakes. "I made them for you as an apology." He said, softly while fidgeting with his own cup, his eyes everywhere but her.
"I-I also wanted to say that..." Here it comes...what he was fearing earlier. "That, if you would like I could, uuh...move or find somewhere else to stay if you feel really uncomfortable with me..." He murmured the last part.
He really didn't want to move. He had found the place very comfortable in the last week and there was even a feel of 'home' which he would like to cling to a bit more. Besides, he really enjoyed spending time with her...as weird as it sounds because they had only known each other for a week, and yet he still found her company very pleasant.

Now she was confused. She was in hurry and she should already be in tramway, but she didn't want to distress him. He made an effort to cook it for her.
Maybe she would excuse herself and run for a tram, but his next words froze her blood. He wanted to move out?! True, this incident which had occurred a while before but... but...
Aoko couldn't allowed him to do that. Despite this day's morning she really felt good with him around. Besides the thought that she would have to go through looking for a new roommate once again was too terrifying.
“No!” she said quickly a bit too loud, looking straight at his face. “Kaito please stay...”
Wait, did she call him by the name?
Now she was blushing again
“Uhm... I mean... Kuroba-san...” she corrected herself, and moved into the kitchen.
She took a cup with coffee and the plate from his hands and put them on the table she sat at. One sip of coffee and she smiled a little bit calmed now. She began again hoping that she sounded more calm and analytic.
“I know that for now it's a bit awkward. But we shouldn't allow that small incident to decide. You are great roommate, you don't have those silly problems and complaints like my other roommates had. So please stay...”

1) For her to be extremely pissed off and kick him out.
or
2) She would have tried to drag him into the shower with her...
That’s what one of his fan girls would have done anyway; except Aoko wasn’t a fan girl, she was his roommate. A girl that had only showed him a friendly smile since the day he moved in and not even once had made an attempt to flirt with him. So, why had he thought that? What made him suddenly believe that Aoko would want to do something like that?
Could it be…? Had he actually hoped for her to do that? Had seeing her naked made him desire for something more?
And the way she had just pleaded him to stay using his first name…he liked how his name had sounded from her lips, it made something inside his chest to purr with happiness and something else…something deep; his hands suddenly itched to stroke her blushed cheeks and then continue the caress down her throat reaching her-
Kaito shook his head, now was certainly not the time to think about what his hormones wanted.
"Thank you." He said, with his most sincere tone. “I’ll gladly stay if you allow me.”
He then smiled softly and sat near her to eat his breakfast. "And its okay, you can call me Kaito. And in return, I'll call you Aoko, yes?" He winked and sipped a bit of coffee from his cup.
“So, Aoko.” He suddenly said; his happiness back in full mode because that issue was resolved and because he now could call her by her name. “What time should I pick you up? Is there any place you would like to go?”

Her name on his lips sounded so... so... When she called her by her name she felt like a woman, not just asexual roommate or scientist like she usually felt, but a hundred percent woman.
'Is it the reason why I'm feeling tickling sensation in my stomach? Like bunch of butterflies were flapping their wings...'
“Uhm... There is a nice restaurant near my department. My lunch break begins at 1 pm. But Kaito, it was my mistake, I should make it up to you.”
Calling him by a name was so nice. Especially knowing that he didn't mind it at all. And his warm and happy smile made her heart beating stronger in her chest.
What was with this guy that she felt so good in his presence and in the same time so strange? Her mind stayed calm while her body was reacting in so weird ways. But whatever it was, she felt that with every next second she felt more and more comfortable with it.

And there he was again flirting with her. He just found she had the best reactions to his ministrations and couldn’t help but wanting to see more about them. They were really amusing and cute. He just wondered what would happen if she ever flirted back…maybe they would-
“Aren’t you a bit late?” He suddenly blurted, looking at his watch. His mind had been wandering on its own accord quite a few times since he got there, and he just couldn’t allow that. Not yet at least. “I mean, didn’t you say you had work?”

She took the last sip of coffee, cursed under her breath and looked at her roommate.
“Thank you for the breakfasts, it was really delicious.” she smiled to him, and not waiting for his reply she run off, hoping that she would be able to catch the the fast tram.
Waiting at the stop Aoko was wondering why she felt so strong urge to kiss her roommate, at least at his cheek, before she left.

It wasn’t the first time Kaito had shared the flat with a woman, but the problem was that Aoko wasn’t like the rest of the women. First, she didn’t refrain to eat what she liked (mostly sweet things), while his other female roommates even checked how many calories a spoon of soup had. And this didn’t mean she was fat, not at all; she wasn’t skinny either, but she had a healthy body and in Kaito’s opinion she had a very nice body (all thanks to the last accident, of course). Second, she was really messy; to the point of leaving her underwear lying scattered over the couch (and here he remembered with a grin how he had teased her about her choice in lingerie...who knew she liked lacy and sexy underwear?). And let’s not forget about the tons of papers with formulas...he knew they were important so he tried not to touch them too much, but when they were pilling all over the table and they needed to eat, it just couldn’t be helped. Kaito was having a slight suspicion that they reproduced on their own since he swore each day the piles of papers were getting bigger. Third, her sense in fashion was really casual (not counting the underwear here). While girls often tried to wear a shirt with some cleavage, high heels or short skirts, Aoko opted for the comfortable clothes: jeans, trainers and t-shirt. And while this was fine with Kaito, he sometimes wondered how Aoko would look with a short skirt...and his mind answered him that seeing her long legs again would be quite delightful.
And there lay the fourth issue: his increasing interest for the girl. He had felt attracted to women before, but it was all physical. With Aoko it was something else, something deeper than just mere attraction for her body. He felt so at ease when she was around, she was so nice and caring; and her reactions to his flirting and teasing excited him like no other. Sure, he also felt physically attracted to her, but there was something else about her that just caught his attention without him even noticing. And that something made something else to bloom inside his chest whenever he saw her...
But now was not the time to start thinking again about that. Right now he was at Jii-chan’s flat, with his white suit, soaking wet from the huge thunder storm breaking outside. And he still needed to get home...just great...
For some reason he started to wonder, with a bit of concern, if Aoko was doing all right...

At first Kaito picked her up from the university just liked he promised, which obviously brought a silly attention to her, probably because usually any man which Aoko had been seen with, was at least sixty years old. And Kaito was too handsome to go through the building unnoticed. Aoko's best friend Keiko, who saw them living the campus together, was teasing her for few days. And the excuse that he was just a roommate didn't help at all.
The other puzzle was Kaito himself.
She tried to solve his secret - discovered his real job, but even after the month she still had as much clues as she got before. Well maybe except that he didn't work every night. It was just from time to time, and she really couldn't find a job which fitted to this scheme.
Not to mention that he was so... so... She couldn't solve him too. He seemed to be so cheerful, so patient and he really didn't care that there were so many piles of paper laying everywhere. He seemed to be okay with her absentmindedness sometimes. Even when she accidentally put the sugar into the freezer and he couldn't find it and had to drink a bitter tea. He was great companion, he could tell lots of funny stories that she had never heard before, he had wonderful sense of humor and he never complained about her taste of television programs when they were watching TV together from time to time. Every day Aoko found herself feeling closer to her roommate. Since they stopped calling themselves as “Nakamori-san” and “Kuroba-san” he seemed to become really more like a friend than just a roommate.
It was also the other side. Because no matter how absentminded Aoko could be, she noticed that he was really careful around her. Hardly ever he showed her a real Kaito, after some time she learnt how to recognize it. And that made Aoko to be even more friendly with him than she had ever been before. The rare real smiles awakened in her a hunger to get them from him more and more often.
A bit later Aoko discovered the perverted side of her roommate/friend. It was when she tried to pick up the parts of her underwear which were scattered at random places and she noticed him studying her bra. He was holding it in his hand very close to his eyes. Aoko was sure that he had to see the tiniest patterns of the thread at the cups, and when he smiled so strangely, she felt her cheeks flushed a lot. Even if she took her property out from his hand quickly, she wouldn't expected the whole teasing abut how sexy and hot her underwear was. But he was teasing her about almost everything. At the beginning it annoyed her, but now...
Now she really like their ”little fights”, especially that it was fun, though she would never admit it.
So tonight when she heard the first thunder, she really wished Kaito to be here. He could be even in his room. Or he could be with her in the living room teasing her like hell, when she was shivering with another lightening or another thunder. She knew he would tease her. But his presence had become so essential lately. She felt so calm when he was around. So relaxed. So SAFE!
“Kaito, please come back home soon.” she whispered; her voice echoed in the empty room.

Kaito finally arrived to their flat, soaking wet of course since he didn’t have an umbrella with him; his white shirt was transparent and sticking to his body from the water while his hair was all plastered against his face with tiny little drops falling down his neck and chest. His black pants felt heavy against his legs and he just wanted to take a long hot bath and go straight to bed.
He could already feel the beginnings of a cold developing in his body…
With cautious movements, he opened the front door just to hear her whispering those words. He could feel his cheeks getting warmer by this new revelation that Aoko thought of this place as their home.
Why did that idea sound so nice inside his mind?
After a quick glance, he noted the place was completely dark (with a few candles illuminating the living room) so that probably meant the power went out due to the storm. Kaito also noted that Aoko was sitting completely still on the couch, hugging her legs, very much like in the shape of a cocoon, which (added to what she said earlier) could most probably meant that she was scared of being all alone in the dark.
Something inside him snapped while he saw her like that and with silent steps, he neared her and without helping himself he hugged her from behind (not caring he was getting her wet in the process) and whispered. “Don’t worry, I’m here.”

It was Kaito.
The wave of relief washed over her followed by the anger. How could he come to her like that and scare her even more?
Aoko turned around that she was facing him. Or rather facing his chest, which looked so hot with his shirt glued into it. Somewhere in her subconscious Aoko noticed that fact, but her conscious side was now a bit angry and she wanted to smack him in the head for scaring her like that.
But then the sense of his words get to her head and she felt the enormous tension melted in their protectiveness. Aoko clung close to him, pressing her cheek to his shirt feeling its cold moisture but not carrying about it because his presence, his closeness calmed her fears. It was like his arms were a shield which protected her from the darkness and the storm.
“You're here. You're here.” she whispered with something between happiness and relief. “I'm so glad you're back home.” she said and held him tighter.

Sure, he was the one who out of the blue hugged her first (and he was still wondering why he had acted like that) but now she was completely crushing him in a tight hug with her face against his wet chest. It was an entirely new feeling; they had never been this close. And this difference made Kaito really nervous, because he wasn’t hugging any woman, he was hugging Aoko and that changed everything. Because Aoko wasn’t like the rest, Aoko wasn’t like any woman he had met before. Aoko was…Aoko.
His hands were shaking a bit at her back, barely noticeable but he could feel them. His heart was racing as if he had run a marathon twice on the same day; he even found himself biting and licking at his lower lip.
And she had just said those words again…and they felt so good, like a twirl of warmness inside his stomach that exploded in all directions reaching to very tips of his fingers. But God, he knew he shouldn’t have felt like that. He wasn’t staying long after all, right? Just a couple of months like usual, maybe even a year if there were a lot of targets to steal. He didn’t have a place to call home, he couldn’t, not yet.
He couldn’t get attached too easily. It was not possible.
But there he was, and it felt so good…
Kaito started to move his hands, in soft circular movements on her back, to try to soothe her. “Are you okay? Is everything all right?” He asked, masking his voice of course. “What are you doing here anyway? You should be in bed, it’s quite late…”

Aoko looked up at him. His eyes looked so different in the dim candlelight. So warm and deep that Aoko found herself staring into them breathlessly.
And his voice. So quiet, so warm, so carrying. She felt like purring just by listening him talking.
Why was his closeness so addicting?
Why did she feel so dazed around him?
“I was scared.” she admitted shyly instinctively hugging him more. “I couldn't sleep.”
Finally her brain processed the information that he was soaking wet and shivering and that it was quite cold around and it probably was the beginning of cold. She thought that at first he had to change in some dry clothes and then he should drink hot tea or chocolate. The problem was... She didn't want to be alone again. And now, knowing how safe his arms could be, she didn't want him to be away. Even if it was next room.
She pulled him towards his room.
“You have to change in dry clothes.” she said, pushing him towards the door of his room. “I won't look.” she promised walking into his room after him.

Is she so scared that she was even willing to stay with him while he was changing?
“Ah, wait, you see-” They were already in his room, Aoko had taken a candle with her to illuminate the room and she was now looking at him with those big blue orbs. The soft glow from the candle was making them look bluer than usual and they even seem to have an eerie shine in them. His mouth suddenly went dry by just looking at her.
’No, contain yourself thief boy, you don’t want to hurt her. Not her.’
“A-Aoko I don’t want t-to make you feel uncomfortable.” He tried not to fidget under her gaze. Really, not even a hundred cops hot on his heels could make him this nervous and one single girl was making his legs waver like jelly. “Besides, I wanted to take a shower first. I know! Why don’t you wait for me here, I’ll be quick I promise. I’ll shower and change really fast.” His hand moved on its own towards a strand of hair to tuck it softly behind her ear. “You don’t have to worry, it’s not like I’ll vanish or something like that. I’ll be back, I promise.” He grinned. “If I don’t, I’ll even let you hit me.”

So she nodded slowly.
Kaito left his room, and in the time he crossed the door frame, Aoko heard the thunder again. She shivered even more, but she made no sound, knowing that he probably be back to her again, and he really need hot shower. He was wet and he was freezing.
With the lightening Aoko noticed that from the whole month his room become more his. It still wasn't much things there but it seemed to soak the atmosphere which was around Kaito all the time. She could even smell the soft scent of his aftershave and soap, and the most intensive it was around his bed.
Not thinking too much Aoko climbed onto it, taking one of his pillows. She hugged it to her chest sniffing the Kaito's unique scent just between the soap, roses and his aftershave. Something she could smell when she was so close to him and something which now gave her just an illusion of safety.
Aoko hated storms. She could never deal with them, which of course always amused her roommates. But with Kaito...
Kaito was just Kaito. And while he could be sometimes a pain in the ass, he could be really cute when he wanted to. And remembering the warmth of his arms Aoko felt better. Well this and the fact that she could hear him in the bathroom so she knew he was still here, and the pillow she was now tightly hugged to, all of this let her feel less scared.
She was thinking why it was even possible to feel like that? To feel so safe with someone who didn't let her to get to know him much? To trust him so much after a month (and a week) of sharing the flat?
Another thunder.
Aoko clung tighter to the pillow, shivering with fear. She closed her eyes, hoping that he would be back soon.

“Okay Aoko, I’m ba-” Kaito paused at his open door, his worried gaze firm on the girl sitting on his bed while clinging to his pillow as if her life depended on it. With quick steps, he got to the bed and sat near her, his arm circling around her shaking shoulders immediately in a comforting way.
“Aoko…” He whispered, getting no answer from the girl. “Hey, Aoko…what’s wrong?” He tried once more; a huge thunder breaking strong above them almost covering his words. Even he jumped a little at that one. ’Jeez…what a storm. I’m really lucky it didn’t happen during the heist…I wonder if-’
But he couldn’t continue that thought since he suddenly felt himself being tackled to the bed in a fierce hug by the girl sitting next to him…

Now everything was fine. Now Kaito was here, his safe arms were around her and she knew that now there was nothing to be afraid of.
And then another thunder; so strong that she couldn't hear what he said to her, nervously she threw herself more into him, hugging him by the chest. All her calm vanished and she shivered again.
His arms were still a wonderful shield, she was now worrying if they were strong enough to keep all the storm away from her.
Burying her head in the crook of his neck, Aoko involuntary noticed in that process that the smell of the soap almost completely covered Kaito's unique scent, though she was still able to catch it.
That thought focused her on another subject. She was now in Kaito's bed almost pinning the poor guy to it. Between their bodies were only two thin layers of their pajamas. Kaito was warm, even more warm than he should, which was probably the beginning of the fever, but Aoko didn't know that yet. The only thing she knew was that if her dad saw her now, he would definitely have a heart attack. And for some reason this didn't cause her jumping out from the place she was. Actually, she snuggled even more to him, feeling much more safe than she would have ever been for a long time.
Meanwhile Aoko felt that she needed to explain herself at least a little, so she began to talk, not knowing that she was answering his question.
“I hate storms. I hate them since I was little. I can remember when I was a kid, I was always hiding under the table with my mom. She covered the table with a long cloth, she hugged me, and she put the headphones on my ears, and instead of the storm I was always heard the soft classical music.” she whispered into his neck, getting back to the memories.
This system worked only if she heard the music feeling the safety of her mother's arms. And now, to Aoko's utterly surprise, she felt the same feeling of safety in Kaito's arms...
'Why?'
