Dexter: So, based on the gif sets that revealed to me
that Deb found out the truth about Dexter at the end of last season, I decided to watch this season. Awesome decision so far! It's been fantastic.
Debra and Dexter's relationship was always one of the most important parts of the series to me while I was watching and, of course, that's getting a huge focus because of the reveal. The struggle between their viewpoints and watching Debra fight against what her father taught Dexter is great. And Ray Stevenson is a bad guy this season! Nice surprise! He's such a wonderful actor and the character he's playing is really well-done; the moment where he and Dexter both bonded on being bored and waiting in the strip club was a good moment.
Once Upon a Time:
This episode legit made me tear up. Ugh, all the parent-child feelings, I feel so many emotions. I love this show. I mean, the theme of what parents (or grand-parents) are willing to do for their children is always a central point of the show but it was especially strong in this episode. Everything from Emma understanding her mother's point of view, to Charming's mother giving up her life for the sake of her potential grandchild/the future, to more subtle things like Regina calling Charming when she realized what Henry was up to instead of going herself.
I'm sad that Lancelot is dead in the present time! Cora is up to no good with those ashes, of course.
The Jefferson subplot made me all weepy all over the place, too. That man has such expressive eyes.
Revenge: Every single time I write 'Revenge', I accidentally write it as 'Revenger' at first. I blame the Avengers.
So, how does this show just keep being so awesome?
I actually kinda ship Emily/Daniel a bit this season, which has been surprising me. I think it's because he's being a lot more thoughtful. It's strange because both Daniel and Jack are with other people and yet obviously not over Emily, but I find that I have a lot more sympathy for Daniel than I do for Jack (I have zero sympathy for Jack's romantic woes, tbh; though I do have sympathy for his brotherly woes).
My heart still belongs to Emily/Nolan*, but it was interesting to me how in sympathy with Daniel's feelings for Emily that I was and yet how not in sympathy I was with Jack's. I think it might be in part because of the differences in the Amanda/Jack relationship vs. the Daniel/Ashley relationship. From my read of the relationships, Ashley has no interest in Daniel as a person, just as a status symbol, while Amanda really likes Jack and it's very hurtful to her feelings and not just her pride that Jack doesn't love her back the same way (anymore).
I think that was Emily's mom who owns that hotel, yes? I'm not always great at actor-faces, but I think it was the same face? I liked her even before I guessed that's probably who she is, back when we saw her call the police and find out that Aidan's fake cop persona didn't actually work there. "There's an appropriately suspicious woman!" I said to myself, "I like her!"
* "This is Emily, my--" Nolan attempts to think of a possible way to describe his relationship with Emily; fails. "--my Emily."
