Smallville and Supernatural: Siren and Dream
Not that it'll matter for a few more months (*insert mutters about the lateness of Oregon's primaries*), but I'm currently leaning in a Clinton direction at the moment. This would appear to be a bit of a minority opinion on my flist, but not overwhelmingly so.
Smallville: Siren
Really, really great, as this season has been tending to be. Dinah's costume was amusing, since she appears to go by Superman's mantra -- make sure they aren't looking at your face (because if they are, like Chloe was, then they'll be able to look past the painted-on mask and recognize you). I'm familiar with her character, though I don't actually read comics (I read about comics). They did a good job with her trademark silent scream (SV generally does a great job with the effects) -- it was neat.
Wonderful character stuff all the way through -- Clark and Lana, Lois and Oliver, and Lois and Clark were all amazingly cool. I'm really enjoying basically all of the Clark/Lana scenes these days and I always like Lois/Ollie and Lois/Clark scenes. The Clark and Oliver scenes were well-done -- their tension from their different places in life really shows through. I liked that they had Dinah the same thing Oliver was doing -- bending the law and going underground in order to serve what (they think) is a greater good. I really like that they made it clear that Dinah's main thing is justice and why that was true.
Especially this season, SV is really contrasting against SPN for the way it treats women. On SPN, the majority of women have been either objects or evil so far this season. On SV, they're all full-fledged characters who are just as complicated as the male ones. Women are allowed as full an emotional range as men. They're people, not props or plot points. This is nice.
Supernatural: Dream a Little Dream
Though I feel a bit hammered on the head due to lack of subtlety, I don't feel as though my entire gender is being attacked and despised, which is a step up from last week. And SPN has never been the most subtle show in the world.
I loved the visual symbolism (though someone needs to tell the people over there that women do not have a secret 'we all die in white nightgowns' code) with the colors and the saturation levels.
I love Bela. I love Ruby, too, though I hate that she was in the women-hating episode (and was involved in part of the enormous number of 'bitches' and 'whores' that were being tossed around). If they weren't around this season, I wouldn't still be watching the show. I like that neither of them is being influenced by the boys and that they're sticking to their own agendas.
