Emotional Distinctions

So, while trapped in Seattle for two and a half hours waiting for our connecting flight, jic and I talked philosophy a little.

Specifically, we talked about anger and love and the differences in the way we process things (we also discovered a couple more exciting definition differences, where we were using the same word but meaning different things).

There's a series of Sci-Fi books where a future (by a few years) naval armada get thrown into WWII. The differences in attitude are enormous.

And we really shouldn't judge the people of WWII by our standards. It might not seem like it, but the world today is so different from theirs as to be Sci-Fi. In everything, from technology to human rights, everything.

And I'm glad you had fun. Yay.

A lot of things are very, very different but (and I probably should have mentioned this part, jic mentions that I always forget to mention the parts that actually make me happy) there were progressive thinkers back then, who didn't want the various new rules to go into effect.

Possibly on the distinction between "anger" (which is the root of uncontrolled violence, in my mind) and "righteous indignation" (which is how I wish I felt about topics such as persecution).
