Sci-Fi Friday: Morpheus and Misbegotten

Oddly, both SG-1 and SGA this week made me think about how much I adore Daniel Jackson.

The command team on Atlantis has completely lost any semblance of that wacky thing called 'ethics'. It's rather astonishing to me, really, how few ethical boundaries they have. They're so 'us versus them' and wild pack mentality. They seem to have absolutely no ability to understand exceptions and what risks are wise to take. And they don't seem to understand that humanity is not the only species in the universe that deserves to be treated humanely.

Plus, they come up with the dumbest and most violent plans ever. I'm seriously considering the idea that they really were sent to Pegasus because the governments decided which brilliant people they would least mind losing forever (which would explain why Daniel did not make the list).

In the most recent episode? I was so freaking on Michael's side. Because Michael has been honest with them. He's dealt fairly with them whenever they gave him the chance. In Michael, he was smart and driven and terrified at what was happening to him. In all of his arguments tonight, I was cheering him on. And when they held him down and drugged him, despite knowing that it was against his express wishes, knowing, in fact, that he considered what they were doing to be the equivalent of killing him... it makes me want the show to end with the Wraith winning (not over everything, mind, just over the sketchy jerks that live in Atlantis).

That said, I enjoyed the Atlantis episode, I just never, ever want to have to actually deal with any people like the ones on the Atlantis command team or (god forbid) have my life or soul in their hands. They would fuck it up in an instant. The SG-1 people might also get me killed, but I doubt they'd make me feel dirty.

SG-1, on the other hand, had an adorably bookish Daniel, a hilarious Vala, a loyal and tough Teal'c, a very accent-y Mitchell, and... I can't think of anything cute to say about Sam, but I liked her lots anyway. I loved that Woolsey was just testing Vala and that she turned that around on him.
