Double character/pairing meme

Apr 04, 2005 16:42

Because I'm tired and have no original thoughts, I will meme.

a. Post a list of 10 TV shows you watch(ed).
b. Have your friends list guess your favourite character and/or pairing from each show.
c. When guessed, tell us why you like that character/pairing.

1. Stargate SG-1
Character: Daniel Jackson.

This one is, I must admit, pretty easy. Daniel's the character that I notice the most, the one that I talk about, the one that I lust over and adore. And why? Brains, beauty, and integrity. He's a brilliant thinker, as long as math isn't incredibly involved (and I can completely understand that point of view -- another thread, I do feel as though he's a very understandable character), he's kind but also has the capacity for ruthlessness, and he's a very attractive man. In glasses or out, slim or bulked up, short hair or long, I just find him very attractive. He's one of the very few characters where my analytical side can be completely blindsided by my shallow side.

Pairing: Jack/Daniel.

Again, fairly obvious, as I actually do talk about the pairing a bit. The reasons that I adore J/D can't truly be summed up in a meme. I love every incarnation of them, movie to Moebius. I love it when they argue, when they speak in unison, when they banter (I'm a sucker for banter). I love the equality of their relationship. I love that Daniel can get Jack to talk and that Jack is who Daniel thinks of first and that they've had the same argument so many times that they can just skip to the end. I love the time and the patience and that the foundation is solid, no matter what. They make me happy.

2. Stargate Atlantis
Character: Rodney McKay.

Oh, McKay. I started to like him in SG-1, when he said that he wanted to be a pianist. He's snarky and egotistical -- really, if you take the worst traits of Daniel and Sam and Jack and then combine them, you start to approach McKay. But under it all, he really does have a soft center -- and woe betide you if you poke it, because he'll bite back. In some ways, I think that he's braver than, say, Daniel, because he truly feels the fear. He is fully aware of what he could lose. In fact, he's a very self-aware individual, to judge by his imagined homecoming (Home). He knows that he's not terribly likable and that makes me much more likable to me.

Pairing: McKay/Sheppard.

It's all about banter. To me, banter is a very specific thing -- it's teasing between two people who respect each other. It's the respect and affection that makes it banter. It's a give-and-take, it's two people simply enjoying each other's presence. And McKay and Sheppard clearly do enjoy each other most of the time. Look at their little boy grins in Hide and Seek -- they just have fun with each other. That's what makes me fall for a pairing, most of the time.

3. Battlestar Galactica
Character: Laura Roslin.

I like Apollo quite a bit (and Boomer and Six and Baltar and Adama and Helo and... I'll stop now), but my favorite is definitely Roslin. I think it was selenak who compared her to Sisko (which I very much agree with) and I've always liked Sisko. She's ruthless, but not cruel. She truly wants to do whatever she can to help her people, which I admire. And she's really pretty. Especially with those glasses on.

Pairing: Lee Adama/Laura Roslin.

I'm not sure that I'll ever write anything about them, but I always grin when they're in the same room and I spent half of the finale episode thinking, "Lee won't do that to Roslin." And, of course, he didn't. But I really did not believe that, in the final throw, he would be against her. Because though he may not agree with her methods, he does believe in the same goal. They're a lot more alike than Lee and his father are. Plus, it would be pretty.

4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Character: Buffy Summers.

My girl. In seasons 1-5, I adored her, but didn't truly relate to her. In 6 and 7, I really felt like I could understand her. I love her, so very much, in good times and in bad. She's Buffy and she's wonderful. Xander is a very close second, but yeah, Buffy's my girl.

Pairing: Buffy/Xander.

B/X 'shipper from first season until last. It's about the jokes and smiles, the faith in each other, and the pretty. From either point of view, I do think that they do each other a world of good. They've always felt like two halves of the same whole.

5. Angel
Character: Wesley Wyndam-Pryce.

I never thought that I would love him so much. I stopped watching after Doyle died and when I did start again, I found myself torn. Wesley was a fascinating character, but loving him felt like a betrayal. He was, after all, the replacement. It took until somewhere in season 4 for me to realise that my love for Wes had surpassed my love for Doyle. Came as quite a shock.

Pairing: Angel/Darla

Of all the couples we saw on Angel, A/D is the one that I found intriguing from the get-go. I love the Angel/Darla/Lindsey triangle in S2 and found Angel at his very hottest in his scene pre-sex with Darla. I thought that her arc was powerful and her arc revolved around her complicated relationship with Angel. Darla was a wonderful character. I'm so glad that they brought JB back for that.

6. Dawson's Creek
Character: Joey Potter.

Yeah, my favorite character is that Potter girl. She always has the best intentions, which does count for a lot, in my book (Pacey's, too, I would guess). She usually ends up hurting people because she doesn't want to. I just feel for her. It probably helps that I didn't actually watch much between P/J and P/J Redux, mind. But yeah, love Joey. Plus, killer legs. Much as I love Pacey, Joey was prettier.

Pairing: Pacey/Joey.

The power of banter. More than that, P/J is a testimony to the sheer power of chemistry. Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson invariably lit up the screen when they were paired. The show tried to fight it, even tried for an entire season to ignore that Joey and Pacey had had a relationship, but the chemistry was too strong in the end. The finale was originally supposed to be Dawson/Joey (the show was supposed to be D/J), but after he wrote it, Kevin Williamson realised that 'it felt wrong'. As one character put it, P/J had enough chemistry to "power a KISS reunion tour".

7. Firefly
Character: Simon Tam.

Yep, I fell for the smart-mouthed doctor. It's a triple-threat: brains, beauty, and determination. He's brilliant, he's incredibly dedicated to his sister, and he "ain't weak" (thanks, Mal). I just really admire him and also think that he's very hot.
(guessed by sparklingjadex)

Pairing: Zoe/Wash

I love this couple because... they are a couple. A happy, established couple. On a Joss Whedon show. Even though they fight in the series, their relationship is never in doubt. And they're adorable and sweet together. And Zoe didn't like him at first! So cute. Love, love, love.

8. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Character: Julian Bashir.

It's entirely possible that, without the genetic manipulation reveal, Bashir wouldn't be my favorite. Because that knowledge fascinates me. It's a large part of why I recently rewatched the series, looking to things that hinted that way, even knowing that it was unplanned. Because yes, Bashir is brave and beautiful and brilliant, but the genetic manipulation gives it all a downside. Because of course he's brilliant and beautiful -- his parents 'fixed' him to be. Best. Recon. Ever.
(guessed by ilanabean42 and sparklingjadex)

Pairing: Bashir/O'Brien

Because of the respect and the friendship and joking. My first time going through, I would have said Bashir/Garek or Bashir/Dax (hmm, I wonder if there's a pattern there). But since I started rewatching the show a few months ago, B/O'B really stood out to me and has continued to do so. Their relationships manages to be both deep and light-hearted.

9. Smallville
Character: Clark.

I just can't not love him. He's... an alien and he's hurt and confused and I want to cuddle him and make it better. Lana annoys me, but I do understand why he clung to her (or, rather, the idea of her). I just really do feel as though he makes sense and I really want to make things better for him.
(guessed by deifire)

Pairing: Clark/Lois

For the first three years, it would have been Clark/Lex (with misgivings). But I am weak and my roots show and I've been 'shipping Lois and Clark since my youth. I was afraid at first that the Lois wouldn't be good enough, but then Affinity aired on SG-1 and I adored the actor that I knew was going to play Lois, so I felt hopeful. Lois doesn't treat Clark seriously and thus is the perfect person to puncture his lonely guy bubble. She treats him like a big, overgrown puppy of a guy, which is just what he is when he's at his best. She encourages the nicer, yet snarky, side of him. Much as I love the Clark/Lex relationship, it's too weighted, too bound up in pain on Lex's side. Clark/Lana is too bound up in misconceptions on Clark's side. And Clark never fell for Chloe the way that she wanted him to. Clark/Lois takes the best of what Clark can be in a relationship without all the baggage.

10. due South
Character: Benton Fraser.

He's snarky, yet polite. Honestly, I just adore him. Benton Fraser started my cop thing, which is unfair, considering that he is Canadian and a Mountie. It's the ethics, man. I am very attracted to people who have strong personal ethics. I mean, you can go through the list above and check.

Pairing: Fraser/RayK

The banter, the spark, the sledding off into the sunrise. I like happy endings (and I can flexible about what constitutes a happy ending -- with BtVS, I really just wanted both Buffy and Xander to be alive and unattached at the end, because I could handle the rest). And F/K really did just sparkle together. They had so much passion Passion is nice.
