i never realised that i could fly so easily

Today's been a good day! Pushed on by how summer is rapidly drawing to a close, in the past two days I've crossed several things off of my to-do list. Very few of them are writing things, unfortunately, but everyone has to start somewhere, right?

Today I ordered my textbooks (ooouch ;__; ) and woke up early to go to the dentist. The last time I went to the dentist it was literally an experience full of pain and blood. I left determined not to repeat that ever again, and guess what?! My oral hygiene has improved exponentially! There was no bleeding from my gums today and although it hurt in spots, my dentist could not stop commenting on how clean my teeth were. Four minutes of brushing night and day + flossing = WORKS. Thank goodness. Now if only the teeth would whiten.

After lunch (BLTs with melted cheese), Mom and I went shopping. We 'finished' my back-to-school clothes shopping yesterday (so I hope) in triumph. I have two new pairs of jeans that need to be rehemmed (my legs are not long enough, it seems) and a thing or two that needs altering. I've got to check and make sure that I have enough shirts for the year but since I have a handful of nicer shirts that I never wear, it might just be time to up my fashion game. Not that I'm complaining! I also have a brand new pair of black boots which I cannot wait to wear. The best news of all fashion-wise is that my favorite pair of shoes, my fuzzy brown boots, which had somehow gotten holes in both heels, can be REPAIRED! They'll be done next Wednesday and are only costing me $20. SCORE. \o/ SNOW, I AM READY FOR YOU!

Shopping. Right. We've nearly accomplished all of my back-to-school item shopping, too. I now have a new file holder, a new chair, new pillows and sheets are on their way, binders and legal pads a-plenty, clorox wipes, a mirror, and other various sundries, including a MAREVLOUS set of electric candles given to me as an end-of-summer gift from the family I nanny for. I love those girls. This same family also gifted me with summer zucchini, many headaches, nice paychecks, and a nice, fat brita water tank that they aren't using anymore. I'm so grateful, because that's one less thing I have to buy. Money's a great thing to have, but gosh, it sure goes fast! Today I bought a lovely little planner. All that's left is to acquire the various foodstuffs I stock my room with (breakfast things, since I don't have a breakfast plan this year, as well as granola bars, yogurt, stuff with protein to counter mid-afternoon hunger and my mid-morning hypoglycemia or whatever my undiagnosed mid-morning-shakes are called. Also tea, I like tea) and to get a thermos, little ice-cube trays, and find a better laundry bag and I am good! I'm really excited to move back. This summer has been very long.

Let's see. I was interrupted while typing that last paragraph by my dad, and we went for a sunset walk together. He talked mainly about himself and his decision to rejoin the church ensemble - a group of musicians who provide back-up music to our worship services on Sunday. He hated it last time he was in it, so he's been trying to convince Mom and I that this is a good idea. The way I see it, as long as he promises not to gripe too much about it, this is a good idea for him. He's a member of the church board now, so it's good for him to "get his face out there" and for the congregation to see him at the forefront of worship. He's finally actively involved in the church - no more of this griping about how men have a tough time getting involved :) I'm really glad for that fact alone. Church is (surprise surprise) a forefront in our family. Mom is heavily involved in Women's Ministries (she's at a Women's Ministry meeting as I type). Rolf is at a bible study (through a different church, and he has healed very well from his bike scare over the summer). Since my involvement in Called Out, the church youth choir, ended with many tears two springs ago, I haven't done much in my church body. This is about to change with a vengeance...I'm helping with Covenant Kids (the children's choir) as they put on their Christmas Pageant this year. I'm the pianist! I'm also part of the worship team the second Sunday of every month. The great part about those, beyond being more involved in church ministry again, is I get to work with the Vances. This wonderful couple (Sam and Candace) I've known for six years. They led Called Out and are now going to lead Covenant Kids and have invited me to join their worship team on the aforementioned second Sunday. Since these two are people I have looked up to practically since I met them, can we just take a moment to revel in how happy this makes me?!

:D

I have two more great things about today:

IT'S FALL! I know it's fall because Mom and I made apple-pie-cake for dessert tonight. We're not normally a dessert family, so this was a wonderful treat. Warm apple dessert...slightly-reddening trees...brisk evening walk...Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks...yup, it's fall!

Lastly, right before I started this entry I received a new email in my SPU!inbox. I love getting emails there. During the school year my inbox is constantly brimming with attention, usually from professors and more often than not from Jerry, my Technical Director and now my employer. I'm so stoked for that job to begin, you don't even know. I've been waiting anxiously ALL SUMMER for my inbox to start filling with ProPrac emails once again. Imagine my surprise when I checked SPU!mail today AND THERE ONE WAS! I'm so happy just to get that email. It's a work call to get the stage and shop ready before the school year starts; cleaning out paint, lights, dusting, resetting the loose wall panels, setting up a new apron curtain, stuff like that. (It probably says something how excited I am to replace a wall panel.) Unfortunately this work call is happening two hours after I will have set foot in a foreign country, so I have to write back and decline my participation. Not that it matters, there are several other employees in-state at that time who can answer the call, and it's not like there will never be any more ProPrac Work Calls as a paid employee. This is my first one, for heaven's sake. :) I'm going to reply to the email anyway. Courtesy is a lovely thing.

Ah, the night is young. What productive thing can I get done tonight?
(Don't say ironing. I'm putting that off.)

college, job, summer
