Mo/breast Cancer/questions
I know at least one of my LJ friends may be able to answer this question for me...((HUGS))
My dads girlfriend, Mo has had breast cancer in the past. She went through chemo and radiation and was cancer free for a few years. The cancer has returned :( They were planning on coming down from NJ for X-mas this year, first time in 25 years or so that I have been with my dad at X-mas. He has never had X-mas with his grandkids, We were all looking forward to it. Anyway, Mo is having a double mastectomy around Thanksgiving time. Hopefully they can still make it. She doesn't know much yet, she sees her Dr. face to face this week so I am sure she will get a lot of questions answered but I told her I would ask you guys if you knew this....
If you have had radiation in the past (like Mo) and have to get the mastectomy, can you get reconstructive surgery? Mo seems to think that she may not be able to because of the radiation, and how it changes your skin or something. She said she had to use really expensive cream during radiation fro her skin, which she did but sparingly. She said she would have used a lot more if she had known...
So anyone know anything about that? If I ever have an other questions (Mo is a bit of a ditz and doesn't question things...) about breast cancer do you mind if I ask here?
