I was beginning to think that I'd gone into hibernation myself. But no, here I am. I'm freshly back from my trip to Germany and the Czech Republic, and while I had to be at the beck and call of a slightly insane Historian for eight days I think I can safely say that it was well worth it. The things you learn. I mean I never thought that you really could bribe your way passed border officials but it appears that everyone does indeed have their price. Which from our point was of view was good. Given that it meant we didn't have to spend nine hours on the border while everything was checked. But I'm only glad that we weren't going by lorry, the que for them could last up to two weeks. Can you imagine?
Also, I got to visit Colditz, which was too much fun. The guide was so funny, again though, completely crazy, but that's to be expected I suppose. The concentration camps were awful, just awful. I mean, well, they're going to haunt me forever. I'm glad I saw them, but just ... I don't know. I swear that there was something there a presence, or maybe it was just that smell... Anyway, I'm back and I don't think I've ever come back form a holiday before and felt that I've learnt something about myself, but this time I really do believe that I did. Which is worth a lot.
