hurricane katrina and peak oil

i just read this morning that because of the destruction of the port of south louisiana, the united states has lost about 20-25% of its energy supply. [http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/090205_bet_life.shtml]
more importantly, this supply is irreplacable. there is not enough oil in the world to bring production and distribution back up to pre-hurricane levels. eventually, from a long-term, landbase-oriented standpoint, things will be much better, but for right now, especially for humans, things are going to get a lot worse.
the world's food supply is much more dependent on oil than we realize or would like to think:

in light of this very real danger and because civilization gets its power largerly by controlling the food supply, (one of) the most radical things anyone can do is to grow and/or gather your own food.
