june and july!

you know the drill, here's a copy of my mass email update for the last month. =)

hello everybody!
it's that time again, when you all get to know what i've been up to
whether you want to or not!
june and the first part of july have been busy, mostly characterized
by settling into a routine. i'm keeping enough variety to keep myself
on my toes, but the routine is nice to have after the initial chaos of
moving. speaking of moving, i'm now in the apartment which is now
officially part-mine because i paid rent (! *gasp* didn't think i'd
ever make it that far, eh?). i won't officially change my address
until august though, so if you send anything to my p.o. box i'll still
get it. living in a house is a bit of a trade-off from living in a
tent. the tent was much nicer to sleep in on the hot nights, but the
apartment is much closer to the simon's rock campus. since i have a
fan, i'll take the shorter commute!

the big highlight of the last month was that i got to go home for the
4th of july weekend. it was party after party the whole time and i
had so much fun seeing people i hadn't seen in a long time! we had a
small family party for my grandma's birthday, a graduation party for
my sister alaina, the annual family 4th party, and a slightly smaller
get-together the following day. i put my skills in teaching people
how to milk to good use again at the graduation party, though i'm not
sure the goats appreciated being experimented on. being with my
family is always an adventure and a good time, especially when
unexpectedly aweome things happen. this time the unexpectedly awesome
part was getting to ride back to massachusetts with one of my cousins
instead of taking the train.

back in new york, this week is the week of the county fair. i'm told
that all of my siblings and our family friends and their respective
show animals have done really well, but this is the first time in at
least 10 years that i haven't been there to participate and/or witness
it myself! it has been very strange to know that the fair is
happening without me. i'm hoping that i'll be able to make another
trip home for the state fair in august.

now i'm looking forward to people coming to visit me: my sister erica
is going to string camp in vermont starting next week, and she and my
parents will probably stop to see me on the way. then my grandma is
going to spend part of a week with me, and for the last two weekends
in july i have plans first to meet up with a bunch of people for
dinner in northampton and then some of my friends are coming to town
for the simon's rock alumni/reunion weekend. friends who are still
studying at src will start to come back in mid-august; classes start
on the 22nd.

my plans for the fall are starting to form, though nothing is really
concrete yet. some of my ideas involve finding out if i can take a
class for credit or otherwise audit a course and finding out if i can
stay on as a coach in the fall. longer term, i don't have any
immediate plans to return to school full-time but i'm doing my best to
learn all that i can from my experiences and to broaden my worldview
by focusing on non-academic activities and learning for the time
being. i'm finding myself less academically inclined these days, but
that doesn't bother me. i feel like i don't need to prove that i can
do academic work and that i'll benefit more by continuing my studies
when i find that i'm really into academics again.

i hope you're all well and i'd love to hear back from you!

hugs, adrienne
