Stephenie Meyer fails at writing. I must have read this, or something like it, at least a hundred times in the last few days. I haven't seen author bashing like this since the epilogue of HP7. And I have to say, just like after HP 7 it makes me laugh.
Stephenie Meyer fails? Really? Smeyer's first manuscript was bought for $750,000. Both she and her publisher have received oodles more money since then. There's a movie deal in place, a giant fandom, and thousands of bookstores staying open for midnight release events. News flash -- that's not failure. In the publishing world, we call that a big win. Huge, in fact.
Are the books good? I think they're OK. They keep me wanting to know what happens next. I think her writing style flows nicely. I can see where people have valid criticism of the books, but to each his own.
Am I saying that no one should criticize SMeyer? Fuck no. Say whatever you want. I get a kick out of the comic parodies of the stories. I've seen some cartoons that I thought were very clever. Of course, this kind of criticism takes some imagination, effort, and dare I say intelligence, on the part of the critic. It's the people who write Edward is such a Stu! Smeyer fails at writing women! If Smeyer can be this popular for writing shitty stu!fic I could become a bestselling author too!
Really? Then do it! Go ahead, write an original character in an original setting for the first time in your life. No cheating. No changing Severus' name to Steve and putting him in a boarding school in Salem. Post it, and we'll all tell you what we think. Deal?
