Writer's Block: Spoilers Below the Cut

Jan 30, 2009 11:15

I hate spoilers. I believe in the process of storytelling and that the writer/director/actors had a set path in mind, a way events were meant to unfold and be revealed. The journey through the twists and surprises of the plot are at least as much the point as reaching the final destination.

I hate spoilers so much that I'm going to add a cut before I relate an anecdote about being spoiled re: Dances with Wolves.

My entire family had already seen Dances with Wolves. For some reason, I hadn't. So one day when I was sitting around the house, I decided to pop the video in and finally watch it. Mom walked through the living room once or twice. The next time she walked through the living room, she paused by the door and watched a few moments of the movie.

All was quiet until:

"Oh, this is the part where the wolf's killed!"

film, writer's block
