"Sir?"
"Yes Jeeves." the Mayor responded calmly engrossed in a book.
"One of the town folk mentioned shoggoths."
"What?" the mayor looked up quickly from the tome before him. "You don't think he was serious?"
"No, sir, I believe he was bluffing."
"Well, Jeeves, you better check on our guest in the basement just in case he wasn't." the Mayor said matter of factly.
"Um . . . very good sir." the butler said hesitantly.
The butler left his employer's study, grabbed an oil lantern and slowly progressed deep into the sub levels of the Mayor's estate. He eventually came to a large metal door, barred with large pad locks upon it. Strange scribbles that glowed eerily in the basement's darkness were scrawled around the door.
The butler opened a small window in the large door, and turned pale as he gazed upon the creature inside. Upset at seeing the horrid creature, but satisfied that it was stil imprisoned deep beneath the earth, the butler quickly closed the window, and raced back up to the upper levels of the mansion.
