A great man once said; "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."
A friend of mine who lives out of state has recently been redefining her definition of reality. There have been recent situations she has found herself in that have knocked her views off kilter and made her have to take a set back and reevaluate what she believed she knew to be constants. She's been asking me a lot of questions, and not only am I flattered she holds my opinion so highly, but I also want to do my best to help her form her own, educated opinion and to help her not accept things "just because" or "conform" under pressure. Even if this leads her to form dynamic opposite opinions from me, that's her right and her choice as long as she makes them in an educated and informed environment.
Now we all know how media and other such outlets of infomation like to portray what they want you to know. I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but everyone has their own agenda and anyone who thinks that the government or media has our best interests at heart is sorely misguided. Politicians and reporters, contrary to popular belief, are not untouchable, but in fact are human too. This is not an argument necessarily in their favor however, it means that they are ceceptable to avarice, envy, and corrupt8ion just like they rest of us, but moreso to the point they have more opportunity to be. Because of the chosen profession, their chances are exponentially higher to make earthshattering life lasting fuck ups than we are. Think about it. How many times to you make a decision that you step back late4r and go, "Wow, I was so sure that was the right thing at the time, and in retrospect I could have handled it way better." Yeah, 20x20 hindsight and all, but some of you out there make better decisions than others and even those of us who try and calculate every aspect of possible outcomes still make bad choices, or at least not the best choice occaisionally.
My code that I stand by with almost zealous conviction is, "everything is circumstantial, just do the best you can to be a good person." Translation; I don't believe that what's good for the goose is necessarily always good for the gander. Case by case my friend. The world, and the people on it, are far too complicated for blanketed beliefs or statements.
Back on topic, sorry. At any rate I appreciate my friend's curiosity, though I'm sorry for her distress over her shattering of illusions. It has however kept me on my toes and made me really think about why I believe some of the things I do. I'm not questioning MY beliefs, but I'm having to actively think about the Why, which I'm enjoying. I like thinking. It get me introuble sometimes, but unlike the drooling masses (present company excluded) I think, and enjoy it. =)
So this turned out much more stream of conciousness than I'd intended. I hope it's made someone else think, even if it's just about how poorly written this post was. =)
