I think you're doing a good thing. I know when my life gets settled, I'll be getting back to my regiment of Tai-Chi and Pilates, but right now all I want is a good scotch whisky and the Game Show network. I'm at graduate school in Syracuse, and I tell you...those two things are necessary.
I always thought the usage of Star Wars philosophy and culture as a lifestyle and spiritual guidance would happen, because the stories and meanings of the books are rooted in format to ancient oral tradition and story telling...much how organized religion. Luckily for Jedi, it's without any political justification that organized religion has. People could always relate to Star Wars because they take something that we all understand and incorporate new ideas and new characters around it...anything that could be based off it for other means would have strong reasons for it to be accepted into culture. Whatever brings you peace of mind is great.
The Australian government does not understand Jedi...and see it has a means to sway government statistics. In a recent census, a small proportion of the population listed Jedi as their religion/spiritual guide. This has led the government to look into fines or prosecution of those individuals, because the government do not see this as a religion. This made the news a week ago.
