Officially, I don't know. His Jackassness never called yesterday. I find I'm not really heartbroken that he didn't, though. True, I desperately need a job -- but I need my self-respect even more. If I spent too long working for an attorney who thinks he has a right to verbally abuse me, I suspect I'd lose my self-respect.
So here I sit, searching the internet for law offices to apply to. And tomorrow I'm going to apply at a few non-law places in Athens. My main worries at present are 1) I need gas money to keep looking for a job in my field and 2) Christmas is coming and I can't afford presents for my auntlings. If I can at least find temp work for the holidays, I won't be sorry that His Jackassness didn't call to ask me to try again...!
You need to call him, tell him that upon reflection you feel that you may have responded inappropriately, and ask for another chance to show him that you can do good work and develop an effective working relationship. Yes, he was out of line, but he's the boss, and he has more leeway for that kind of thing. He may have eventually apologized, and should have, but your response was insubordinate. Part of working is learning to deal with assholes, and honey, if you're going to work with lawyers you're going to be knee deep in assholes. You can use the experience you can get working for this guy, not only the legal experience, but the "getting along with difficult people" experience too. Not to mention that it will be easier to find a job if you already have one. And, the Athens legal community is small: you can't afford to burn a bridge that can be repaired.
I'm willing to give and receive a second chance. The reason I haven't called him is because he said he planned to call me -- I don't want to "push" him. What I may do instead is write up a fax to send to him tomorrow, since I plan to go to the DOL and use their fax machine to send my resume to a few places, anyway. Or maybe write a letter and drop it into the mail
