I am so proud of my children! Janelle is such an inquisitive little lady, and so full of thought and compassion for her fellow human beings. After we lost Chris' cousin this August, Janelle wanted to do something for the other kids that were suffering from some form of cancer. So she came up with the idea of having a penny drive at school to help raise money to go towards cancer research. So I talked it over with the principal for her, and she thought that it was a wonderful idea, she was so impressed and proud of Janelle, and said that thinking about how kind and generous Janelle was made her want to cry. It is things like this that reaffirm to me on a daily basis that I have done something right when it comes to raising my kids. Our kids truly are the future, and it is with their generation that cures for different kinds of diseases will be found, and that is my one wish for them in the future. Here is where I gloat and share the speech that Janelle has written to read in front of the school, teachers and parents.
A Speech on Cancer
Thank you parents, teachers and students for coming to this assembly, I have something important to tell you. On August 18, 2006, my cousin Thomas passed away from Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. It started in his leg and spread to his lungs, eventually taking his life. After Thomas passed away I had an idea of starting a penny drive to raise money for scientists to find cures for cancer. I am asking students, parents and teachers to bring in any extra pennies you have, when the posters are up and they will have all the donation information on them. All money raised will be donated on Thomas' name to the Kids with Cancer Society. I want to thank you in advance for your donations and thank you for taking the time to listen to me today. Hopefully there will come a day when the money we raised finds a cure for this disease and kids like Thomas won't die.
This is why we need to take the time to listen to our kids of today, this is why I as a parent, am so proud of my children. All it takes is one person to take the time to listen to a child, and I mean really listen, they are our future..........
