I'm so proud - for years I have been quite jealous of Scarletdemon and her talented and amusing son Little Gay Brandon. I have a son and I have often wondered whether he would ever do anything that would enable me to coast to LJ stardom on the back of it. And finally my patience has paid off.
Yesterday I went to PCWorld to purchase my new laptop (woohoo!) and my daughter (8) helpfully trailed around after me pushing the trolly as the salesman and I loaded it up with a cool bag (yay) a new printer (yayhay) Office 2003 (wayhay) Norton etc. Meanwhile Son, who is a mini-goth (he's only 12) went to play on the PCs. HAving collected all the lovely computer bits, we then went to settle down in the little booth to do all the paperwork. I sat down opposite the man, daughter and trolly stood next to me in the entrance to the booth. I suddenly realised that I no longer had the Salesman, Richard's attention. I followed his gaze and realised he was staring at my son who had silently appeared in the entrance to the booth and was standing right next to his sister silently staring at me from heavily eyelinered eyes. I suddenly realised why Richard was looking at him and said,
"It's alright he's with me - that's my son"
to which Richard replied,
"Thank goodness for that, I thought he was some kind of weirdo stalking you"
"Well he is weird" I replied "but he's OK"
We then turned back to the business of working out my bill. Richard pointed out he was giving me a £10 discretionary discount, which I thought was rather ungenerous on an £860 total spend. So I flashed him my best smile and said,
"Come on, you can do better than that" I gestured towards Gothboy, "Look what I've got to cope with"
"Oh alright then, I'll give you another £15, but that's all I can do"
When I explained later to Gothboy how he had saved me fifteen quid he said (without hesitation or deviation)
"Well I should get at least seven fifty of that"
I negotiated him down to a Creme Egg and the opportunity to star in his own LJ entry.
