I’m a big fan of Cloud’s character, so I can’t help but follow some of your interactions at amat. So far I haven’t been all that impressed unfortunately. I know you just had a canon-update with him, so he’s somewhere around Aerith’s death, so of course that will have some affect how he interacts with a majority of other characters, but I feel like your Cloud is so…bland. Cloud as a character has always been a man of few words and he’s altogether socially inept, but that doesn’t mean he’s boring. Most of the responses I’ve read lack any real substance; it feels like you’re just going through the motions to fill a comment and that you don’t really care all that much.

Of course that’s only my opinion and maybe you put a lot of thought into how you have Cloud respond, but I’m just telling you, as the reader, it seems slightly half-assed. Cloud has a lot of depth and carries a lot of burdens and insecurities, but he’s still quite quirky. Half the time he doesn’t know how to deal with people and that affects his mannerisms and how he generally talks; how he presents himself. At the point in canon that you’ve taken him from, I guess he’s more cold than anything though-he’s plays the leader of their ragtag group well enough, but he’s still that socially awkward kid. He’s not comfortable addressing how he feels about a lot of things and keeps generally business-like. So on some level you’ve succeeded with that; your Cloud certainly hasn’t branched out much with dealing with how he feels on anything.

I just wish you’d give Cloud more…life, if that makes sense. You only seem to post with him when you have to and don’t make much of a point to post around with him to his canon-mates. Cloud might be considered a straight-faced leader in the game but he cares a great deal about his comrades and he’d obviously want to check up on them occasionally-no, all the time on Atia. He’s the self-appointed leader and he makes it his duty to take care of everyone. If you should take anything away from the point in canon you decided to take him from, it’s that he wants to be surrounded by his friends. After Aerith’s death, one of the first things he said to the two other characters he’s with-no specifics, because it depends on who you choose in the game-is that he wants them to stay close to him. He isn’t confident in his own abilities and although the threat of Sephiroth and Jenova is not relevant on Atia, Cloud’s mentally shouldn’t be completely different. He just lost one of his closest companions; don’t you think he’d want to look after his friends with the life or death situation going on at Atia?

So yes. I think you either need to majorly step it up in terms of giving Cloud more substance and activity, or stop hording his character. Because I’ve looked at the tags and you barely even post around with him. Maybe once a month? That’s not fair to his canon-mates. Just because you like a character, does not mean you have the right to sit on that character. It’s a role-playing game and for one like Amat-which moves very quickly-high activity is key. If you cannot handle playing a central character like Cloud with more activity and thought, then maybe you should consider dropping.
