* When they FIRST FIRST got tossed out of the orphanage and into Garden, there was some semblance of them getting along (in the sense that they basically kind of hung around each other! Because they were really the only familiar things around :( ) As soon as Seifer started making friends, Squall started ignoring Seifer, and the 'rivalry' aspect flared up way more again.
* Squall used to let Seifer copy his written work, until the instructors caught on to the fact that all their test answers were identical, with slightly different phrasings. He never considered it 'cheating' or any of the implications of that, because he knew that Seifer was intelligent enough to do it on his own.
* They were both hospitalized for a day after trying to prove to each other that they could take on a T-Rexaur. After being released, they went out and did it again. They won! But only barely and not by any sort of teamwork-- just by spamming limit breaks until the T-Rexaur fell over. And then Squall nearly fell over. And they were bleeding everywhere. It was not exactly badass. They were both hospitalized for another few days after that.
* For the biggest part of their childhood, Squall basically thought that Seifer was better than him! It was at about age 12 or so that he started to realize that Seifer only picked on him because that's how boys show they like you actually thought of Squall more-or-less as an equal.
* When they were really, really young, they used to argue about whether a knight or a lion would win in a duel. These arguments had no real conclusion except for Ellone stepping in and breaking up the fistfight that would inevitably occur. (Seifer would usually win the fight if Ellone wasn't around to intervene.)
* SEIFER MIGHT ACTUALLY BE SQUALL'S BEST FRIEND AND THAT IS SO PATHETIC I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN
* Seifer tried a couple of times, waaay back when, to get Squall to watch The Sorceress' Knight with him. Squall could watch about ten minutes before rolling his eyes and leaving.
* The colour-coded for your convenience thing-- Squall wearing dark colours and Seifer wearing white colours-- actually originated back in the orphanage when everyone would play together. Seifer would order everyone into their roles and usually cast Squall as the villain. Neither of them remember this.
* Before, like, the end of disk 1? Squall didn't think of Seifer as someone who could die, simply because he was such a permanent presence in Squall's life. The reason for the DON'T TALK ABOUT ME IN THE PAST TENSE freakout was partially because the thought that Seifer could die ... kind of freaked him out.
* Whenever anything resembling a mission came up, Squall and Seifer would usually be paired together. Specifically because they didn't work well as a team, and having teammates you don't necessarily get along with is something you have to work with.
* Back in the orphanage, Squall would actually take to hiding places if he wanted to be left alone! Usually Seifer could find him after about five minutes, if he was looking hard-- Edea usually wouldn't be able to find him for about fifteen or so.
* Squall wonders why the hell Seifer keeps attracting all the weirdest friends. Relatedly, he wonders if he should call Seifer a friend or not, because it's really weird to begin with, and then there's all the emotional retardation and--
