And Parties!!
Took a weekend trip to Chicago with BzdChris, Barley52, FullyGoldy, and T & S. Planned for a great encased meal at Hot Doug's, but when we arrived they were "closed duew to technical difficulties" Bummer. Found a way around and got some great Mexican food for lunch, did some shopping at Uncle Fun's, and headed to the hotel. While Barley52 regained some energy, T & S, BzdChris and I went to The Publican for an incredible meal of tasting plates, 9 between the 4 of us, and probably 2 too many. But all of it was really great.
(OK, I wasn't a fan of the sweetbreads, but I had to try them because I had heard so many other people talk of them. I'm sure they were cooked to perfection, I just didn't like them.)
After a trip out to Fitzgeralds in Berwyn for an Iguana's set, we headed back for a night of sleep.
Sunday was all about going to the Cubs game at Wrigley Field. A quick trip out to Mac's Diner for breakfast, and we got packed up and checked out. Park the cars at the CTA station there in Rosemont, then downtown. Apparently, it was not all about seeing the Cubs play at Wrigley. BzdChris had an agenda. After finding our seats, she disappeared for a few minutes, and when she returned, she was wearing a flowered headband and a veil. Our friend T is an ordained minister, and Chris had conspired with everyone else involved to hold a ceremony there in the stands before the game. No legalities were enforced, no license applied for, just a heartfelt little pledge to each other in a place and time that meant very much to me. It is what I will consider our anniversary, that she thought enough to make this happen with close friends and at Wrigley. So, no matter that the game was rained out. No matter that we left by 330pm, headed out to Goose Island for beer and food, then took the CTA back to our cars just as the game was officially postponed. We got married. And just that quickly I once again realized just how lucky I am.
So this am, on vacation we celebrated and consumated. Tomorrow BzdChris goes back to work, and I have the rest of the week off to work on the house. Life continues to amaze.
