From the Depths....emerges a familiar face

HI everybody! I'm not Dr. Nick. I'm the Busman, and I have tales to tell.

So, we jumped in, with help from Bzdchris' Mom and bought a house! It's great ,a three bedroom split level, north side of Madison. We closed early this month, and have been moving stuff over slowly, and doing some cleaning and painting. It's really a crazy time, as we go through stuff, decide whether we are keeping it, look around and figure out that for everything we can get rid of, there are two or three things we need to buy.

Get rid of some old files and magazines, get a new mattress and boxspring. Throw away some beat up camping gear, get a new stove. Receive some stuff from Chris' mom, ( freezer, table and chairs) , buy $200 worth of paint and home improvement stuff at the Depot.

We got blessed by a number of our friends this past weekend, as a painting and cleaning party assembled, painted three rooms, washed out cabinets, moved stuff around and even shared in the life we live.              barley52 ,fullygoldy ,choisyleroi ,drstarbuck ,

ashade  among LJ Users,  along with Vicki, Matt, Gary and Ray, all showed up and put in a yeoman's day, working until almost 8pm.    The Pizza and Rhubarb Martini spritzers were enough to keep everyone going , ( the occasional beer helped too).    We ended the day sitting on the deck,  laughing and  talking in  the setting sun.  I hear several people were a little sore the next day,  but everyone we spoke to were glad to participate.

I have been  using my (current) Tuesdays off to meet craftspeople  while they do work around the house. Last week appliances were delivered, as well as the new bed, and  I met with a handyman who moved  several light fixtures around, and an MGE guy who prepped the gas line for the new stove.  This week I was supposed to meet a plumber who was going to install a new water softener, as well as a reverse osmosis drinking water system , and the handyman was returning to install the microwave/vent over the stove.   But mu plans fell apart.  The plumber hadn't arrived by 9:30, so I called, and when he called me back he apologised. He had scheduled me for tomorrow,  even tho his notes said Tuesday.  And since I can't be there tomorrow,  he will be over next Tuesday.  Then the handyman called, the job he had started the day before had run into problems, and he wouldn' t  make it either.    I was there trying to do little things while waiting for them, and now it was just me.  Hmmm.

I got the bedframe set up, attached to the headboard,  painted the wall in the basement with Drylock,  and was touching up the walls in the bathroom especially around the ceiling where paint had peeled off when the tape was removed.   As long as I was at it, I tried removing the towel rods, and while taking one off the wall, I hit the bracket it was mounted on with my hand.   So,  11 days, 22  hours,  31 minutes after becoming a mortgage holder ( I won't own a house for a while yet, until  we have paid more than 25% of the mortgage IMHO) , I had my first trip to Urgent Care.    It's not much , three stitches on the side of my hand under the pinkie finger, but down by the wrist.  SO of course the bandage makes it look as though I've already tried to slit my wrist.   I guess the measure of how I'm living my life is how many bruises and cuts I have.  I must be living large.

This weekend the movers come for the big stuff.   Fridge, TV, dressers, bed, pantry and more.  We have to turn the fridge off Wed night, as  it must be clean and warm for the movers,  and so Thurs thru Sat we will be eating at the new place,  or eating out of to go boxes. Matt and Richie will be here to help us move a few more things,  ( I can still work, but lifting heavy stuff is off my hands until next week sometime.)  SO , I guess that's my first real update in a while.   And it may be the last for awhile, as the internets won't be on at the new place until next Thursday at the earliest,  and who knows when if AT&T does it's stellar job of screwing things up again.
