But since I mentioned football in the intro I must say it was a nice grand final moment to watch the finals on TV while we were at the Footscray market and feel the universal appeal of our sport as the people of the world inclined their eyes to the screen as they pondered the relative merits the pile of fruit and veg.
Kinder holidays mean I can go to the cry baby movies again. Went to see Look Both Ways and was very pleased to some Australian filmmakers setting the agenda. I’m loved the use of animation to express the thoughts of the main character. It was also successful in tackling a universal theme while still approaching the characters personally, intimately and humanely. It looked at death, grief, fear, life and love and did it in a unique way. Can’t say many films are that unique these days…
Went to see Wallace and Grommit: Curse of The Were Rabbit and while intending to meet
hatter_anon and
kafechick, met neither but I did run into some old friends of mine while was rather pleasing. I hadn’t seen them in ages. The movie was a good bit of fun too as well as being a Greens fundraiser. One must put faith somewhere as Labour is choking on its own vomit in the aftermath of Latham (B is reading The Latham Diaries) and Beazley indolence. What a lazy barstard he is!!
We went to a 55th birthday party yesterday.. a nice change from all the kids parties we’ve been attending and while my friends are breeding like rabbits that facet of life is not about to slow down. Our friend gave a speech and used it to address every person in the room and thank them for what they had done for her/taught her and what they meant to her. Rather special. We should be that expressive to our loved ones more often.
We also visited a friend and her new baby boy in hospital. He’s a couple of weeks premature, is in NICU but is now off all life support systems. He is only 4 pounds but he is here finally after such a long and arduous journey for his mum. She finally has her baby and I am deeply pleased for her. We were pregnant together and while I had Hamish she gave birth to a 5mo stillborn. Bu now her moment has come. To meet someone who maybe 10 years ago would never have been born and even now seems to have defied the doctor’s dire predictions is so profound. Definitely deserving of my quilting skills! It is so nice to give a handmade gift and express the shared happiness/connection that much more potently.
BTW,
hatter_anon I have been rather enjoying listening to those CDs you gave me! You may be interested to know that I went back to that shop and bought the skanky green blazer with the ribbon tie up. I can’t wait to wear it out somewhere!
