Yes, I holidayed in the south of France.

Gawd, this summer had been depressing. Rain rain rain. And then some rain. In fact, it's raining right now!

I managed to escape it for a few days by heading over to France (St Jean de Luz, just south of Biarritz) with my flatmate. There are a few photos up at Flickr, but seeing as we mostly sat around, read books and swam, there wasn't too much to photograph. (Those are the best kind of holidays, for sure).

Otherwise life continues. My brother has come over for a year or so and is now living in Birmingham (I know, WTF?) and still earning masses more than me (damn public sector!). My parents are due over in a couple of weeks and I'm taking some time off to travel with them. Can't believe it will have been over a year since I last saw them! I'm planning a visit home in late February - planning in the very loosest sense - by which time it will have been nearly three years since I left. I still don't really have a big urge to move back, but it would be nice to visit and get a hit of Kiwiana.

I should be getting a little of that at the UC Alumni cocktail party at New Zealand House next week. If nothing else, the view is supposed to be amazing and there will be cocktails...

In totally frivolous news, I've just had my hair cut the shortest it's been in years. It's right up by my ears which makes my neck feel rather exposed. It's nice to have the curl back, though. It does mean that there will be hair trauma as soon as I wash it for the first time - always the test.

Ho-kay, back to reading about collaborative working...

ETA: It's official - gloomiest summer since records began.
