kadava!

With no SRT show, or school, I have had relatively little to complain about lately. Luckily something caught my eye and I will not rant about it.

Lately, there have been several movies that were originally books that I read. That were completely and entirely butchered when made into movies. Two most recent examples are War or the Worlds, and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

War of the words was the most incredibly dense book I have ever read. It didn’t help that the font was around eight and that H.G. Wells likes to use the least amount of words possible to express complex thoughts and images. However I read the damn thing in eight grade and generally liked it. There, however is no reason why the book and the movie bear the same name. The movie has the same premise as the book, only 50 years later, in New York with an entirely different plot line. Once the main character had a name and a family, all was lost. Giving the main character a name completely destroys the effect Wells was trying to create. By leaving out the name he allows you to step into the character’s shoes and be in the book as the main character. Thank you Hollywood for fucking up another perfectly good book.

Well, Hitchhikers was a great movie…until it started. They didn’t even have the opening right and after ten or twenty minutes they had completely lost the plot of the book and were quickly running rampant thought a world that somewhat resembled what Douglas Adams would have imagined his book to have looked like. However I think that he was too busy rolling over in his grave to imagine anything. The movie was filled with changes that did not aid and really simply took away from the movie by making it less like the book which didn’t need any god damned changes. For example, I distinctly remember Ford to have red hair (and by has red hair Adams really meant is a black guy?!), also the space ship which is stolen in the book and is expressly stated to several occasions to look like a tennis shoe is in the movie a white ball (wtf?), the other thing I found strange was the fact that Marvin had the same voice as the Metatron from Dogma and what does that say about Christianity if the voice of God is a manic-depressant? (I smell blasphemy)
