Spent the day at T's place, since they have a huge telly, and yes I've followed the
Swedish Royal wedding all day (yeah, mostly links to paper's I usually don't read..) . Went home an hour ago, while they were having the fish course, and made it back home for the King's very emotional speech . I must admit that I actually got quite teary-eyed during the wedding ceremony, and even later when the Crown Princess made her thank you oratory. God, I'm not at all a royalist, but I'm kind of resigned over the fact that Sweden is a monarchy, and as I said yesterday, I do rather like the Crown Princess Victoria.
And one good reason to watch the whole thing is to get some value for the money we as Swedish subjects have payed for the spectacle. And Victoria and Daniel's romance is suitably modern epic, with his commoners background, her father's early dissatisfaction with the relationship, and Daniel's journey through "Prince school".
So instead of grumbling about the wedding, as so many are doing today, I've decided to embrace it and enjoy the show. And it's a excellent moment to check out
some fantastic gowns and uniforms. I loved the Danish Queen Margarethe's green dress, the Danish Crown Princess Mary's dress and the Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit's blue dress. I'm also really impressed by Prince Daniel's sister and her boyfriend. And for once I rather liked the younger Swedish Princess dress. Victoria's dress? Very simple, but very her I thought. I liked it!
Ed: Oh my god, more speeches - and so many more tears! I adored Prince Daniel's father's very moving adress to the newly married couple. And then Daniel himself made a speech to Victoria, and oh he is so very stiff, but under that attitude is one huge heart. SO adorable. I'm totally soppy now. Such a weird situation for the Westlings, and they manage it perfectly! Proud of and for them.
