14 Valentines: Day 10 - Peace Movement

Feb 10, 2008 23:38

Today's topic over at
14valentines is Peace Movement.

I'm going to be very lazy and re-hash my post from last year:

There are so many important people and issues which could be covered by that title. There are a few women from the early days that I admire. I have always been fond of Rosa Luxemburg's ideas of internationalism.

Ellen Key  was a prominent part of the peace movement at the end of the 19th century, is often forgotten and discarded as some kind of Earth Mother feminist, but she did have some interesting ideas (her house, Strand, now a museum, is very peaceful and so incredibly beautiful).

Today's "official" essay mentions Women in Black, which is a fascinating organization inspired by the amazing Las Madres de Plaza de Mayo and the  Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo in Argentina.

peace movement, 14 valentines
