Fettisdagen

The Swedish traditional annual eating of the Semla  occurred today. My sister is ridiculously fond of these buns, and she has bought us several in the last weeks, but today is the 'official' day for eating them. We were too late with our shopping today, all the semlas were all ready sold at the local bakery. So instead we cheated and bought ready-made plain buns and assembled our semlas ourselves. You cut the top of, take out some of the inside, mix that with some almond paste and fill the hole, put some whipped cream on top, then put back the top, and sprinkle some confectionery sugar on the very top. I'm pretty traditional when it comes to the Semla, and prefer mum's home-made ones, since one can eat them with warm milk. Store bought buns are too light for that, and dissolve at once in the milk. So no hot milk today. Still, they turned out pretty enough.
