Shem and I are looking to buy a house and have found a beautiful one at 34th and Vincent Ave N in Minneapolis, in the Camden community, Cleveland neighborhood

i really don't know if it'll be any help as my experience is from -very- far back, but i grew up on 44th and oliver ave N... we've kept in touch with our old neighbors over the years, but i haven't spent any real time there for many years. i thought "camden" was farther north and east from 34th and vincent... *shrug*... maybe it grew.
when i lived there, it -was- kinda rough. i did play outside all the time without fear or much hassle, but i was near the parkway, and that area was comparatively "clean cut". our house never got broken into, our garage did. i never -heard- any gunshots. local businesses rotated often. typical north mpls stuff.
i ran around in the crystal lake cemetery, and rode my bike to the camden park and library alot without any issue, but i almost never headed farther south than 40th... the farther south, the rougher it got. it was -very- sketchy south of dowling, and i can't imagine it has gotten any better. down by lowry and broadway could almost be called ghetto from what i remember, and at least 20 years ago, i personally wouldn't wanna live there.
we lived a few blocks from patrick henry high school... my parents really didn't want me at that school, so we moved before i went into high school. our alley was a common loitering grounds for delinquent students... drugs, and beer were common behind my garage, but things never got rowdy or violent that i remember. i know there were a few break-ins and one shooting nearby... but what inner city doesn't have those over time. i'll say that it wasn't awful at all, but it wasn't "pretty" either around my house on 44th.
i'd love to tell you that it would be great there, but i know it's gotten rougher since we left. i think ethel lives on the other side of the cemetery over there... maybe she's got a better current feel. i hope this info helps. good luck on house hunting! *hugs*
Hey - thanks for all the info! After much thought, research, and input we have decided that we won't make an offer on the amazing house in that area. Hopefully we will find the right house soon! Thanks again!
