Thanks to Benn, I was recently introduced to the now short lived TV show "Freaks and Geeks." Now I've heard all the hypes about this show. How smart the writing was. How great the cast chemistry was...blah blah blah. I was still iffy about it. Because there are cases in the past, where the hyped from others just didn't live up to my expectations, especially in the case of "Sex in the City." Maybe that's just a show for the female audience, then again I did watch all six seasons of "Dawson's Creek." Granted, I only enjoyed the first three seasons of "Dawson's Creek," when Kevin Williamson was doing majority of the writing.
Back to "Freaks and Geeks." The first episode seemed okay, nothing really interesting. Now usually, I respect Benn's taste in movie and TV series, since we both share much of the similar taste. Although his Michael Bay fetish has brought me unimaginable pain once. But that's another story for another time. Still, I was willing to give this show another chance. So on to episode two, where Sam, brother of our main heroine Lindsay, trying to make sure his sister doesn't get in trouble by switching regular beer with none alcoholic beer. As the her party starts, chaos and hilarity ensues. Nothing over the top, just a humor that would apply to a regular situation like this. My interest begin to build.
As I watch more and more of this series, it just gets better and better. I think what makes this show great is how down to Earth human it is, yet its still smart enough to be funny with everyday situation. And show no matter what generation it is, high school will always be high school. The division of cliques will always play a strong role influence character building of all of us. Thus making us relate to the characters on this show, despite the generation gap.
I highly recommend this show to anyone who enjoys TV shows thats smart and funny. I get through at least one dvd (3 episodes) a day on this series. And I'm also angry and sadden that network TV cancels great series such as this (see "Firefly").
Anyhow thanks Benn, for hooking me with this series. If the entire series is good as the first 3 discs, I just might to buy myself a set.
