Last night Greg and I met up with Radka and Griffin at the Still Remains show at the Icon. Curl Up and Die were supposed to play, but they cancelled, possibly because they broke up. I heard that their van broke down and they had to cancel a bunch of dates though. Either way, going to that show and the Juliana Theory show in the past month made me realize that it's not the fact that bands don't come here, it's just when they do, nobody comes out. I mean, the Juliana Theory were filling Showplace up like nothing a couple of years ago. Granted this isn't a couple of years ago and their style has changed somewhat, but they played more than half a set of old music. I know a lot of you would have enjoyed their set at least or would have had a good time at the show.
It didn't used to matter who was playing a show either. Kids would go out because they heard of the band and had to see what the hype was about. The show last night was actually really good, I thought. It went quickly, and most of the bands were decent. The problem is, nobody showed up. The recognizable kids that we would see at every show didn't even show up. The ones that did watched their friend's band play and then left. At the end of the night there was only about 45 people there tops, and that's including all of the bands.
I know people have grown up and grown out of going to shows and whatnot. I guess it's just a "new scene" that is coming up. Either way this new scene didn't show up last night and I was pretty disappointed.
